I post a weekly diary of historical notes, arts & science items, foreign news (often receiving little notice in the US) and whimsical pieces from the outside world that I often feature in "Cheers & Jeers".

THEATER NOTES — the Monty Python musical Spamalot — whose original 2005 Broadway production directed by Mike Nichols received 14 Tony Award nominations, winning in three categories (including Best Musical) — is set to be revived on Broadway this autumn. In its original run, the show drew an uncommon audience: single young men not accompanied by their girlfriends.

YOUR WEEKEND READ #2 is this advisory from Rick Steves’ travel site about an on-line visa waiver application that visitors (from the US and Canada) travelling to most parts of continental Europe will need to complete, beginning in 2024. The process (and approval) should be quick and the fee will be less than $10.

FRIDAY's CHILD is named Betty the Cat — a rescue kitteh who helps run an Oklahoma liquor store, whom staff are trying to train to offer better wine recommendations to customers (rather than just suggesting cat-shaped bottles).

OLDER-YOUNGER BROTHERS? — two British singers: the Simple Minds’ Jim Kerr (Don’t You Forget about Me) and Rick Astley … yes, of rick-rolling fame.

...... and finally, for a song of the week ...........................… again, a hectic week, so a quick song. I have more than once profiled the band Blodwyn Pig, which was founded by the original guitarist in Jethro Tull, Mick Abrahams — who wanted to perform more blues-oriented material than Ian Anderson (who saw a blend of jazz, progressive rock, folk and classical — plus blues — as the way to go).

Mick Abrahams turned age 80 this past spring and has recorded several solo albums … this is a favorite from those efforts.
