The Issue of Jailing Trump is Before Us Now, Today [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-08 I’m not a teevee person but I don’t rule my little house, the thing is often on, and two days ago Elie Mystal was on MSNBC saying we’ll never see President Trump in jail or imprisoned, the appeal process will keep him out and if he wins in 2024 why of course there’s a magical way to pardon himself. I just love the way it’s always automatically assumed a convicted felon President Trump stays out of prison simply because his case is on appeal, excuse me, where did this other legal mystical backflip come from? The law says you get indicted by a grand jury for breaking the law in DC the case has to be tried in DC, appeal for a change of venue all you wish after trial, but that doesn’t mean the sorry ass convicted of a felony gets to walk while an appeals circuit takes its time deciding. There’s always something or some fantasy scenario where president Trump isn’t cuffed and imprisoned, a guest at Ruth Marcus’s Washignton Post column said the Secret Service issue was insolvable, then some guy at Chauncey DeVega’s work at Salon said President Trump couldn’t be locked up for “security reasons.” Where does this maddening compulsion from otherwise rational educated humans to leap into this legal nothing fantasy world to rescue Trump come from? Security reasons? What are you talking about? National security? Municipal security? Prison security? Another fun element to all this pathetic equivocation is the always in-the-far-future projection of it, babble some senseless nonsense and it really doesn’t matter because the brute reality of the issue is a long time away in resolution, we’ll see about it all then, won’t we? Ah, no. Look, get indicted by a grand jury of multiple felonies in DC and god you are in serious trouble, you get arraigned and your status as a free normal citizen is now completely freaking gone, you are under orders and jurisdiction of the randomly assigned presiding judge. If you can’t make bail, indicted felon, then you can rot in jail before and during trial, indicted felon, that’s what the law says must be done. President Trump posted bail to the DC district judge, Tanya Chutkan, who totally within her power gave him precise instructions on how to behave, commit no crimes, home, the felony crimes you’re indicted for grant me the power to imprison you if you don’t follow simple, basic instructions. As sure as the sun rose Trump instantly went free on another crime spree, making explicit threats and charges against almost everyone on his lousy social media platform, Truth Social. As sure as the sun sets Trump violated the terms of his bail and if he were anyone else would be remanded to DC and jailed. Not for a week or few months, until and during trial. There is no far-away future hypothetical time for imprisoning President Trump, the issue faces us and is in play now, today, it’s Tuesday, August 8th, get firmly in mind historical fact will record a former President of the United States was imprisoned Friday, August 11th, 2024. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, life can sure take some interesting twists, eh? It is now your duty to issue a formal memo stating the Secret Service does not provide personal security with federal agents to a former President who gets jailed or imprisoned, that’s an impossible scenario. Once a former President is jailed all security considerations are then transferred to the presiding institution, it really is that simple. Such an institution would certainly make a few adjustments for such a prominent felon resident. If President Trump still felt insecure or not safe, why, I’m sure solitary could solve that issue. There’s no other security issue stopping the jailing of President Trump, no magical mystical legal mechanism to employ, no ridiculous rationale to throw out there to somehow stop what would have been unthinkable in the past. It’s now up to the presiding judge, the honorable Tanya Chutkan. Another maddening political element of our times was that President Obama could never bring out the mattresses in righteous anger–such as the blocking of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court–because oh my goodness, he would then be the Angry Black man, that could never be. I’m ready for the rationalization President Trump can’t be jailed by a black female, why it would be all so flamingly provocative, wouldn’t it? It’s all a crock, Judge Chutkan, more useless empty blather, life in the USA will continue precisely the same as before if you jail President Trump, a former President in jail awaiting trial, that’s all, everything else moving along as usual in the ol’ USA, warts and all.
