Solidarity Works [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-10 By David Glenn Cox I feel somewhat disappointed in myself. I missed the Ohio story. And it was all because of a personal prejudice. I just took it for granted, it just seemed too obvious to me. Reproductive Freedom is the dog which the Republicans cannot tame, and it continues to bite them at every opportunity. I took the outcome for granted as every time the issue of reproductive freedom is allowed on the public ballot, Republicans lose. The turn out is always larger and whenever the turnout is larger, Republicans…lose. The Republicans prefer to pass a law at midnight and then let the courts fight it out where opinions aren’t quite so fickle. When the Republicans used the courts to overthrow Reproductive freedom. I knew that it was one toke over the line, sweet Jesus. What will Republicans fundraise on now? “Won’t you help save those poor whittle babies! We hate anyway!” Why, building a toxic waste dump near town means Jobs, Jobs, jobs! And helps to attract new industry! I recently heard a discussion on how Green energy was damaging the environment by the usual suspects. Wind turbines were killing billions with a B, billions of birds. And offshore wind turbines were causing whales to lose their way. Beaching themselves by the hundreds with an H. How odd it was, I thought, to hear Republicans suddenly so concerned for the environment and animal welfare. Machiavelli says, “oh, I see.” Willing to make any argument if it serves their purposes or serve any master. “Those are my principles and if you don’t like them. Well… I have others.” – Groucho Marx Destroying reproductive freedom brought the close connection of church and corporate state and bound their relationship as a loyal voter base together. It was like having a perfect NRA score, a must for any Republican candidate. They must also profess the faith and burn the mass card in their hand. 100% anti reproductive freedom. Richard Nixon was pro-choice. But this was easy money and opened doors. “Yeah, yeah, sure. I’m a Christian too! Yea Jesus! Hey glory! Whatever, just don’t forget to vote in November!” And the money flowed in, and the doors opened. It would be only natural they would want to pander to it. And pet it and stroke it to milk it for even more money and more open doors. They foisted the issues in safe places of the South and faster than you could say “Federal Express” the issue was before the extreme court. A pipeline to heaven to go along with the stairway. This same “green energy” conversation mentions Greta Twumdenburg five times in three minutes. Her name spit out as if mentioning the naked devil. This young woman is simply voicing her opinion. She’s not hurting anyone or raising an army of well-armed mutant redneck militia. She is just speaking her mind. What they hate is her prominence. “Very clever, use a kid. Maybe we should have thought of that first, huh?” They see every issue through the eyes of a media ploy. Seeing only the camera angles and spin value in November. Save the planet, buy more petroleum! Nuclear energy is clean, you know! Of course, it could lead to an environmental catastrophe of unimaginable horror that would change your life and neighborhood forever. Probably won’t though probably, and it’s clean! That’s the trade off danger vs. need. And they need to make sales. It’s like digging for gold, getting a new plant approved. “It’s Green! Everybody and clean, we just store the waste off somewhere no one ever goes, so it’s clean.” A Republican could be working for nuclear energy from 9 to 5 and fighting the plant’s location on the weekends. Fighting both sides of the argument for whatever purpose suits them at the time. And seeing no contradiction in either. No contradiction in beating up on a teenager drawn to prominence for a minute and using her name as codeword for evil. Even though, she has done no harm to anyone. No contradiction in taking a wife or girlfriend up among the free states, if need be and still voting for reproductive repression at home. “Oh, I see. You burned a prayer card and everything.” But the Ohio measure stands as a shot across the bow. The women showed up and said, “Hell No!” Showed up and shut them down cold in Ohio. Not in Portland, but in leans red Ohio. With primary number turnout for a special ballot measure. Do you suppose that was an accident by the legislature in leans red Ohio? A single-issue vote during the summertime when no one votes, vote. And it blew up in their faces. Striking fear in their hearts of troubles ahead. Fearing the day of reconning has begun. If this result were a social trend repeated, it could mean big trouble for Republicans in the fall. Their friends don’t need them anymore. Tell them, “Kudo’s, job well done. Tell them, I’ve got Jesus on the other line, and I’ll call them back later in the week.” Will Hurd said it, “Republicans keep losing national elections.” The anti-reproductive freedom movement has the potential to make those losses generational. Their positions are not popular like prohibition, which also started in Ohio. Conjoined as they are to the giant flaming Trump disaster. Does a naked emperor have any coattails? November feels cold from here. A document and after they told you not to write anything incriminating down. Laying out the whole phony elector’s scheme, step by step. Now we know why Jack Smith seemed so confident, he had it in writing. Even admitting, I know this probably illegal. But hey, we could still try it. If you are ever personally considering sedition yourself, never say in a document. “I know this is probably illegal,” even if it is! Just don’t. It gains nothing and expands possible exposure to prosecution as an admission of guilt. I know we really shouldn’t (tee he) do this, but we could try to over throw the government. Some pretty big names face some pretty big problems, some squealers, and some wheeler dealers. “Let’s Make a Deal!” The public damage is cumulative, drip by drip. Watching the dominoes fall one by one. But the difference in Ohio was the women’s vote. When women turn out Republicans fall. In a 50/50 world one percent can make a difference. Demographics say younger voters hate black and white movies and Republicans but hate Republicans more. The pendulum swings towards the light and change is at hand, but it all depends on showing up. Ohio proved solidarity works.
