[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-11 WaPo: Tuberville’s office says his primary residence is an Auburn house that records show is owned by his wife and son. But campaign finance reports and his signature on property documents indicate that his home is actually a $3 million, 4,000-square-foot beach house he has lived in for nearly two decades in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., located in the Florida Panhandle about 90 miles south of Dothan. Even more telling is that his wife, Suzanne, is a Real Estate Agent licensed in Florida — and NOT Alabama. One requirement for being a Senator (and there aren’t many, age and citizenship are the primary ones) is that you are a resident of the state you represent. Senator Dick Lugar (Electing in 1976 in Indiana) lost his seat after being busted for living outside of Indiana since 1977 (sold his Indianapolis home and bought one in McLean, Va.. And he had enough gall to charge taxpayers for his hotel when visiting Indianapolis. The Alabama “home” that he’s claiming to give him residency is owned by his son (different middle name and goes by “Tucker”) who now works in New York. The WaPo article goes on to show that Sen. Tuberville continues to expense travel and food, when not in DC, in Santa Rosa Beach and Panama City Beach, IN FLORIDA pretty much monthly. When challenged about this, Tuberville’s communication director emailed back: “Coach has purchased and invested in real estate for decades,” Stafford said in an email. “Coach has owned the property in Santa Rosa Beach for two decades — he bought it while he was coaching at Auburn. He goes there upon occasion if he has a free weekend. It is within driving distance of Auburn. I’m sure many Senators have vacation homes.” “Driving Distance?” Try four hours each way. Senator Tuberville never owned that house. The article goes on to eviscerate other arguments (like his younger son Troy living there) and so forth, but even in 2017 he claimed to have retired to Florida on ESPN, not Alabama. - Yet another bit of foul-smelling Republican crap.
