What does yellow taste like? What does green sound like? What does blue smell like? For those with synesthesia, the answers are simple. For the rest of us, not so much. Enter The Color Factory, an interactive experience where visitors can experience these questions up close. The Color Factory has branches in NYC, Houston, and Chicago. Let’s take a short tour, shall we? So, if you read my diary last week, you saw one picture of the trivia group which won the passes. This above is the entrance to the exhibit. As you can see, great spot for a photo. Once inside, you register your email, and you are given a card with a QR code. Scanning that at registration enables you to go to selected spots through the exhibit rooms where you scan the card, and you can get a selfie. The pictures are sent to your email. So what kinds of rooms are there? As I said, it explores color and its relation to our other senses besides sight. For instance, there’s a room where you can play a game of “what color does this taste like?” How it works is you are given three small packs of colorless pop rocks, each with a different flavor. You eat them, view a panorama of colors on a viewmaster. Guess the color. At the exit, you can check your guesses against the key. There are other rooms with have two colors paired with each other using light. The room is surrounded by mirrors. As you look in the mirrors and move around, your face is shown in different details thanks to the use of color The best room, though, is the music room. Different colored proximity speakers are set up, with each color having a melodic snippet in a timbre and style of that particular color, all meshing together into one composition. I was grinning like a maniac the whole time I was in the room. Lots more rooms all designed for fun and thinking. And, sweet treats. I’ve already mentioned the pop rocks, but there’s also salt water taffy, macarons, jelly beans, and in the ball pit room (Sorry, no pictures for you of me going down the slide) you close out the experience with either a tiny melon ice cream cone, or a frozen coconut mochi. All for free as part of the color experience. It conveniently exits into the gift shop which is a riot of color. Not gonna lie, I spent a lot of money in that shop. And TOTALLY worth the ticket price. Fun for the whole family. Tonight, I’m continuing the Summer of Social I talked about last week and going to see friends in “Hello, Dolly”. So, on to Tops! TOP COMMENTS Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments?
