Be prepared

The tragic fires in Maui brought emergency preparedness to mind. After experiencing two Sonoma County fires in which we had to leave our dwelling, we keep a go bag ready near the door. This contains medicines, cash, underwear, phone numbers, and passwords. Keep in mind that cellphones can fail; we depended on our car radio several times. This is a minimal list. The county GoBag Recommendations are comprehensive, but would take multiple huge suitcases to carry. This would be the ultimate preparation, but impractical for many.

Most evacuations will be by automobile, so it’s advisable to keep the gas tank (or EV battery) as full as possible. And have several escape routes in mind, depending on the direction of the threat. During our first evacuation here, and new to the area, we were shocked to find it took almost an hour to move three blocks.

This is a brief KTK, as we will be gone much of the day. I may be back in time, but I’ll queue in just in case. Thus it’s an open thread. Are you prepared?

This piece of music has been haunting me for weeks. I can’t get enough of it.
