[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-14 I cannot speak for how Coloradans think of Democratic Governor Jared Polis, but I was not impressed with his most recent appearances on CNN and MSNBC. In fact, I felt like I was being patronized. Polis has been working with Republican Governor Cox of Utah, and he told us Democrats 1) we all think abortion is “bad,” 2) we should look for ways to reduce abortions by stressing birth control and other options and 3) Americans need to stop demonizing each other because of their political beliefs. We should all find “common ground” and not think of our political opponents as “evil.” In fact, there are plenty of politicians across the aisle who have good intentions for America. Or some such other fucking drivel. Sorry, but I got pissed off watching him on Jen Psaki’s show. I have no idea WHY she decided to give air time to Polis, other than he appeared on CNN with Governor Cox to piss on abortion rights. Recent remarks by Gov. Jared Polis that Democrats believe abortion is "bad" and should be minimized, and his implication that parents should find a "solution" if they need more preschool hours than what the state offers, have irked his Democratic allies in Colorado. In response to the criticism, the governor defended his comments, saying society needs to find ways to reduce unwanted pregnancies. Abortion has become the most divisive issue separating progressives and conservatives. The Democratic orthodoxy is to view abortion as health care and to insist that the right to the procedure should be unfettered. Many conservative Republicans believe that abortion should be illegal, while others advocate for restrictions based on the term of the pregnancy and the viability of the unborn child. Polis made the remark on abortion on July 23, when the governor appeared with Utah Gov. Spencer Cox on CNN's "State of the Union." The two, who are members of the Western Governors' Association, discussed an initiative on how politicians can work together better. Polis' comments about abortion came in response to a question from host Dana Bash, who suggested it might be naive for Democrats to call for more respectful debate when Republicans are trying to restrict abortion access or LGBTQ+ rights. As the nation's first openly gay governor, "how would you disagree better with someone who says your marriage is not legitimate?" Bash asked. "You start with common ground on something like abortion choice," Polis responded. "Democrats don't believe abortion is good. We believe it's bad. It should be minimized. How do you prevent unwanted pregnancies, to make sure people are empowered with the information they need?" He added: "There's common ground there to have constructive discussion about how families can be healthier, people can be healthier. It doesn't mean we will agree on a very difficult and challenging issue, but at least we can have a conversation on a better level." Sorry to have taken so much from the article, but I think you all needed to read what he was saying. You can read up on what progressive Coloradans, and they ain’t happy either. I’m sorry folks, but where the fuck has Polis been living for the last several years? The REPUBLICANS ON THE SCOTUS just made it easier for businesses to DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY! AND THIS INCLUDES POLIS! How the hell do you NOT say that someone who wants to discriminate against you because of bigotry is a “good” person wanting to make America better off? Bigotry is evil. And accepting bigotry means inflicting emotional pain on our fellow Americans. And if you are a bigot who is discriminating against someone because of their sexual identity, you are a rotten person. And about abortion? Those Republicans you are trying to buddy up with are KILLING WOMEN! Since when is jeopardizing the health and life of women a GOOD THING? It’s EVIL. And you are NEVER GOING TO FIND COMMON GROUND WITH PEOPLE WHO TAKE AWAY THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN! Sorry again folks, but this is just delusional and stupid at the same time. I’m not a fan of calling my fellow Americans evil. Some of those people who strongly disagree with me and have embraced Trumpism are my family and friends. I hate to to think that they have succumbed to evil, but they are not good people, at least when it comes to politics. I can make excuses that my family and friends have been brainwashed by the likes of Limbaugh and Fox, but at some point, they are to blame for accepting Republican lies. They checked in their critical thinking skills. They could switch the channel or simply turn off the damn TV. But they didn’t. Do they get a pass for supporting Trump and Republicans because we know them and are loved ones? I don’t talk to many of them nowadays. It’s hurtful, but I cannot say it’s OK for them to support evil politicians. And I’m not the one who brought up politics. I usually went out of my way to avoid confrontations because I know how they always end. I’m the delusional idiot who is taking away “their freedoms.” We have entered an age where one side is supporting political violence to overthrow a democracy. Since when is that not evil? Are we supposed to let that slide? And if we stand up for the rule of law, Democrats are the ones being “dehumanized” by Republicans. Sadly, we are in a political war to save democracy. And people like Polis drive me nuts. He doesn’t see what is happening. If he wants to bridge divides, I would suggest he give speeches in front of Trump supporters. I’m sure they will welcome him with open arms. /s.
