Voyager 2 has turned on the last power reserves in order to power the instruments longer [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-14 Prompted by the diary last week about JPL regaining contact with Voyager, I stopped by the NASA — JPL — Voyager website to see the latest and the left to right story banner in the middle flashed a story about something I hadn’t thought much about — JPL has decided to use up a portion of the reserve power that had previously been set aside in case of emergency. I totally get it. Why save the reserve tank when the main one is about to run out? So JPL threw the reserve switch back in April just like I had to on my VW. They might as well get every bit of data they can, It’s an amazing story. Just stop by the JPL website above and click on the left or right margins and then pick the story. On a personal note, I was in primary school when the Voyagers were launched, then about to finish secondary when Voyager and Jupiter met, and then was an adult when the Pics of Uranus and Neptune once again reminded us how we benefit when smart people get together for the betterment of humanity. I kinda feel like I grew up with it.
