One Week In To #SayingGay in Florida’s Panhandle [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-19 Hi everyone! I’m Gay Valimont, I’m running in Florida’s Panhandle against Matt Gaetz. Last week I posted here, and I just wanted to thank you all so much for the support. If we aren’t already acquainted, you can take a look at that post here. The number one question I get is why I’m running. I’m running because people deserve a better option than Matt Gaetz to represent them. He’s never in our district, and he’s always just trying to make headlines to fundraise and build his platform for his own personal use. Sometimes, when I’m on my 4th hour of call time in the day, I just read the news to get me riled up to keep pushing on the campaign. Let’s take a second to look at what he’s been up to this week. At the beginning of the week, he called for “force” to “change things” in DC. You’d think after what occurred on January 6th, they’d have learned their lesson, but he’s always trying to stir the pot. I agree that things need to change in DC. We need new laws that protect our families from gun violence. But force isn’t the answer. He sure seemed to agree with me when someone threw a milkshake at him last year. Nothing Gaetz does serves any actual purpose than political gain. When I talk to Democrats and Republicans in this district, they agree that they wish he brought back funding for the district, or even held town halls that were anything more than press conferences. But he doesn’t, it’s all about headlines. Which brings us to yesterday. He’s always trying to get on Trump’s good side. If only he was as worried about the good side of the people in his district. Aren’t these judges already under enough pressure and threats from Gaetz and his allies? It’s easy to get riled up and just get angry. Or get discouraged when people say it’s impossible to make change. But i’ve been part of the gun violence prevention movement for years, and while change is slow, it’s not impossible. But I’m keeping up the fight. When I’m done campaigning for the day, I take long walks on the beautiful beach with my dog Daisy. I hope you get some joy out of these pictures of her. I’m really fired up because of your words of encouragement.
