Follow The Money: Is Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin Going To Enter Presidential Race? [1]

Having worked around and written about politics since 2004, I have learned a few things, the real game underlies the most obvious circumstances. Network pundits probably already know what I am going to predict here. They have a professional reputation to protect and I don’t.

I am from Virginia originally and I still have a finger on that state’s political pulse. I see things moving towards a Glenn Youngkin run for President. I first noticed something was stirring about six months ago and I wrote that the money moving in his direction seemed substantial for a non-candidate. Last quarter he raised a bunch of money for his Spirit Of Virginia PAC. More than any recent Governor had raised in an entire year. He also has some powerful suitors. Reporting confirms that Rupert Murdoch is pressing on him to enter the race and GOP billionaire mega-donor Thomas Peterffy recently dropped a $1 million check in to Youngkin’s PAC.

Back when I first wrote about his entering the race, I qualified that it would depended on certain things happening. The first was Donald Trump’s indictments needed to be substantial. They are, convictions look likely in most of these cases. Insiders know that this makes him vulnerable even though national polling doesn’t yet reflect this. The other seemed less likely at the time, that being Ron DeSantis would stumble.

With both met, I make a prediction that we will see the support for Trump recede in the next few weekly polls. DeSantis will lose some points too following a lackluster debate performance. Trump has hit his ceiling, there is no other direction but down for him now. The news will just keep getting worse for him. This gives Governor Youngkin his opening to announce, which I think will come in the first two weeks of September. He will be the shiny new object and a gift to the pundits looking for a new story line. It looks inevitable to me.
