Today in Europe. The Digital Services Act or How To Tame Big Tech. [1]

I’m not going to write a big Diary since I am kinda busy but this might be as important as all that stuff with the dOnald going on. The European Union launched some very hard hitting legislation meant to reign in all kinds of nefarious big tech doings today. From the little I understood from the few sources I speedread Big Tech is going to comply if not without the usual grumbling.

I also understood while this for now only applies to the EU it is very much a case of where one leads other will follow. I read a while ago that Tesla won ‘the connector war’ in the US and that the US will (eventually) adopt the Tesla connector. Tesla uses the EU standard connector because they have to. Ditto with Apple. The EU said USB-C and USB-C it will be.

Having standards for equipment benefit all, same for having standards for online behavior.

I’m not going to be around much for comment being in a crunch for another important project I hope to report on some time soon(TM). I’m from the wrong continent anyway, reporting is fine, commenting would be out of place. But have at it.
