[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-08-31 A quick summary, one of the many plot threads floating around in the “Debt Ceiling Showdown” with the June deadline was the court case filed by NAGE. The argument/standing was that the Debt Ceiling would greatly harm their chances of getting their paychecks in a timely manner, therefore the Debt Ceiling law should be struck down. That’s the quick quick summary because this’ll be a quick quick, informal diary. So… Whatever happened to that??? Isn’t this a case where Biden would just lay his sword down (metaphorically speaking) and let the judge rule the Debt Ceiling unconstitutional? I don’t know about you but I don’t like a ticking time bomb that the government has to kick down the road year after year after year after year. I don’t think ANYBODY should. We have the budget, we don’t need this stupid, stinking Debt Ceiling law that’s essentially a “blow up the government” button. But apparently the Department of Justice representing Biden is arguing FOR this godforsaken thing, this annoying catastrophic law? I’ve looked into it but I haven’t found many sources I really trust, which is why I’m asking here… Because I asked Google already and was hoping people would know. I think I remember Department of Justice arguing for the law even as the days ticked down to Default, which baffles me… But I don’t know. I hope my memory’s dead wrong, my memory and the few sources I have found recently.
