Near-Death Ain't Death [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-04 I came late to the discussion about The One Question Religions Have Never Been Able To Answer… by daylin (DK member), which appeared in Daily Kos last Friday. By the time I saw the piece, there were well over 550 comments. I feel it is worth pursuing this topic for further elucidation and edification. I repost my comment with a few modifications below for those who may have, understandably, missed its later entry, or for those who wish to express further reaction to the original story or other comments. We’re talking potential eternity here, folks. On Saturday, August 2, I left this response to a comment from DK member LLL3555 regarding what some people report after having a near-death experience, and what such “revelations” might mean for various religious beliefs. Comment: Near-Death Experiences are not Death Experiences. These hokey stories about seeing “evidence” [for one’s] local religion’s legends and icons is not universal. In other places, people deprived of oxygen for a little while without dying, may see “evidence” of their local religion’s legends and icons. Hmmm? Here’s what’s up with that: Before you breathed oxygen, you didn’t believe in any gods. Once you got a chance to breathe oxygen for a few years, plus a whole lot of other amazingly specific circumstances and indoctrination about your [local] god(s), you may or may not have believed in some god(s). Those god(s) will go away again or remain gone when you haven’t had any oxygen for at most a few days. Do I know this for a fact? Yes! How do I know? Faith! What does faith do for me? It makes me a winner! For a really short piece of time. Just added : Remember people, that thou need oxygen to think, and unto not thinking thou shall return. Ya just need Faith. __________________________________________________________________________________________ To save time on Monday, here’s a blanket response to some of the anticipated comments to this piece: If you and your beliefs can be upset by some little nobody like I am, what does that say about the truth and power of your god(s) and your beliefs? Relax. You’re gonna be fine. You know your god(s) would never let you down.
