Genghis Khan would approve of Ukraine's counteroffensive [1]

Genghis Khan, a wanderer who grew up in tents, ended up ruling an empire as large as Africa. He was a brutal killer, unable to read or count to 100, but his understanding of war and ruling made him the most successful military expansionist in human history. If he were available for comment today, I do not believe he’d be badmouthing the Ukrainian counteroffensive. I think he would approve of how Ukraine is fighting.

Perhaps because the Mongols were nomadic, they had a simpler view of warfare. They knew about battle lines and holding positions and keeping the high grounds and all of that, but those conventional military ideas were left in the back seat and what drove the campaigns from the front seat was to go out and kill the enemies.

All the armies trained soldiers to shoot arrows from horseback, but for the Mongols, this was not only the main component of soldier training, but they specialized in shooting arrows at people behind them as well as in front. They didn’t care if they were chasing or being chased, they didn’t care where the battle lines were. They didn’t care if they rode miles back from where they spent the night, their goal was killing their enemies and ruining or stealing the arms and supplies their enemy needed. Genghis Khan’s horsemen would instigate small-scale skirmishes where they’d kill enemy soldiers and then ride away, and they’d repeat until their enemies’ army was ruined and then they’d siege the cities.

According to Genghis Khan’s tactics, it would be silly for Ukraine to throw all of its’ forces into minefields and into the face of entrenched enemies waiting to kill them. Genghis would tell the Ukrainians to kill as many Russians as they can and ruin their weapons and supplies, to defeat the Russians first, and then run in and take the land back. To me, it seems like that’s what the Ukrainians are doing.
