[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-05 We all like Joe. And agree he’s accomplished a good legislative agenda: climate bills, Chips act for technology, IRA act to reduce inflation and help fund alternate energy, the infrastructure bill, on and on. And yet his approval remains low and he’s close to tied with Trump, which is unthinkable. And so this could only mean that people are simply misinformed or not aware of what he’s done for them. The GOP misinfo machine is way out-pacing our own. So we’re in trouble. And Joe’s had nearly three years to manage his perception and profile and has come out looking ho-hum (whether he is or not is immaterial!) . Whether my friends agree that Joe should run or not: We all agree: — Up to now, Democrats are WEAK on messaging. -Messaging and messenger’s “profile” are now #1 priority to win elections. People care more about what they are messaged to believe than what is actually accomplished. Even better if they are both consistent. Too many still cling to Trump’s election BIG LIE and others, but he’s got the energy and repetition to keep cranking it out. And so without effective, ENERGETIC messaging and cutting a strong looking profile — we are at a disadvantage. What is so wrong with saying: Joe’s had a great legislative agenda and now a younger more dynamic messenger will take it from here? We cannot count on the Trump indictments: who knows when they will come to fruition. (They took too long to begin with.) More and more of my friends, strong Dems, feel frustrated and somewhere between hopeless and resigned. That’s crazy to put us in that position. Forcing someone upon us with a stern: “look, he’s going to be the one so just swallow it and get behind him” — is NOT going to bode well. I know, I’ve been a campaign worker for many cycles and will continue to be. You cannot browbeat or railroad our party into enthusiasm, it needs to be genuine. And no, my friends, this is not 2020. And right now I have a long list of other candidates: Whitmer, Klobuchar, Booker,….. that I’d be more excited about.
