What the latest Alabama redistricting ruling means for my swing district. [1]

Dear Daily Kos family:

Back in June, the Supreme Court surprised skeptics when it ruled that Alabama’s Republican legislature likely violated the Voting Rights Act by racially gerrymandering the state’s congressional districts.

Here’s the latest news: Yesterday, a panel of three federal judges rejected the redrawn map from Alabama lawmakers, which ignored the Supreme Court’s ruling by failing to include a second majority-Black district.

Instead, the judges ordered a court-appointed special master to draw three new potential maps by Sept. 25.

I think it’s disturbing that extreme politicians in Alabama continue to reject federal court rulings by denying equal representation to Black voters.

As many of you know, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the racial gerrymandering case regarding my district, SC-01, next month. Before then, officials in South Carolina should pledge to respect the justices’ ultimate decision.

I believe in both strengthening democracy and preserving law and order across the Lowcountry.

If you hold the same values, I encourage you to donate to our campaign to defeat MAGA Rep. Nancy Mace, flip this swing district, and retake the House from extreme Republican politicians in 2024.
