Lujan Grisham Suspends ALL Gun Carry in ABQ and Bernalillo County 30 Days. [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-08 Well this is certainly a way to raise a profile, although that is not why she is doing it. x Today I issued a 30-day ban on the open & concealed carrying of guns in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. Gun violence is killing between 2 and 3 children every month in NM - every single one of these deaths is unconscionable and they must stop. https://t.co/KJdXUMBVaG — Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (@GovMLG) September 9, 2023 We know that Governor Gavin Newsom has been a strong and effectively vocal proponent of gun reform, but Grisham basically said, “Enough is enough I am done with this garbage.” Here is a partial summary of her order: New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday issued an emergency public health order that suspends the open and permitted concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque for 30 days in the midst of a spate of gun violence. The Democratic governor said she is expecting legal challenges but felt compelled to act in response to gun deaths, including the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy outside a minor league baseball stadium this week. The firearms suspension is tied to a threshold for violent crime rates that only the Albuquerque area currently meets. Police are exempt from the temporary ban on carrying firearms. Will this hold up? I don’t know. But below is the breaking point. An 11 year-old was killed in an incident of road rage. Whether it holds may not end up being the key point. The key point is we finally have abother partner, along with the bold Newsom, in gun reform at the state level willing to turn the key, so to speak, to launch real political measures designed to protect the public. According to Albuquerque Police, the shooting happened on Wednesday evening. Police say someone fired 17 shots at a vehicle following a possible road rage incident. Police arrived to the scene shortly after the gunfire and found 11-year-old Froylan Villegas dead. A woman in her 20's was taken to the hospital and is listed in unstable condition. I agree with the move. It is like Governor Grisham asked Governor Newsom to hold her beer while she took action. Predictably, the Twincel Mafia is blasting its usual hate, threats, misogyny, and harrassment at her, but she clearly is not moved by people who have relationships that require air pumps. -ROC [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/9/8/2192312/-BREAKING-New-Mexico-Gov-Lujan-Grisham-Suspends-ALL-Gun-Carry-in-ABQ-and-Bernalillo-County-30-Days Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
