[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-12 Reporters never seem to tire of the old narrative of Democrats in Disarray, but some are finding Republican Presidential Primary Follies hard to ignore. Gabe Sherman of Vanity Fair writes about the infighting between the rats of the sinking ship that is the DeSantis campaign. Too bad most of what is reported won’t make the MSM take notice, until DeSantis officially goes down with his ship that is. And Vivek Ramaswamy has declared that birthright citizenship for undocumented workers kids will be done away with under his presidency. Ramaswamy will do it with “the stroke of his pen.” You cannot make this shit up. First up, we have the DeSantis campaign and his super PAC “Never Back Down” in a pissing contest: When Jeff Roe signed on as an adviser to the main pro–Ron DeSantis super PAC in March, it appeared that the Florida governor, fresh off a 19-point reelection victory, was the future of the Republican Party. Roe was the hottest operative in GOP politics, having steered Glenn Youngkin to an upset victory in Virginia’s 2021 gubernatorial election, and his decision to join the Never Back Down PAC was validation that DeSantis had the best chance to wrest the party’s 2024 nomination from Donald Trump. But six months later, DeSantis’s national poll numbers are down about 50%, and his struggling presidential bid is being buffeted by layoffs, infighting, and embarrassing leaks. According to sources, Roe and the DeSantis campaign are blaming each other for DeSantis’s faltering candidacy. Yes, this article is told by Jeff Roe or one of his acolytes. To Roe, all the problems start with the previous campaign manager Generra Peck. Peck was a favorite of both Ron and Casey DeSantis because she delivered Ron’s 2022 Election victory. People keep forgetting that it was Ron DeSantis who intimidated and supressed the votes of 1.3 million Floridians who didn’t bother to show up to vote in 2022. Anyway, Roe thinks Peck didn’t know her ass from a hole in the ground when it came to presidential campaigns. Roe blames her for the overspending (Ron flying on private planes) and the later layoffs. But Roe also may have — OK highly probable — sexist streak because he also blames Lady MacBeth Casey DeSantis too. And the comments are glorious to say the least: Sources say Roe has also expressed frustration over the fact that DeSantis is relying so heavily on his wife for strategy advice. According to the GOP operative, Casey, a former local newscaster, told people that the Republican Party was ready to move on from Trump. The operative recalled the infamous campaign ad Casey tweeted last fall that showed black-and-white photos of her husband as a narrator intoned: “God looked down on his planned paradise and said: ‘I need a protector.’ So God made a fighter.” “We can revise that now. God chose Ron to get his ass kicked by Trump,” the operative said. Roe denied making disparaging comments about Casey DeSantis. “That is absolute flat bullshit,” Roe told me. “Even if I thought it, I wouldn’t say it. And I don’t think it.” Sure thing Dude. But I do love the “God chose Ron to get his ass kicked by Trump.” And as for Ron’s view: DeSantis, meanwhile, was reportedly angry after a firm associated with Never Back Down, and owned by Roe, posted an embarrassing debate strategy memo online just ahead of the first GOP debate last month. (Because of campaign finance rules, super PACs are barred from coordinating with campaigns. Posting the memo online might have been a way to communicate without running afoul of the law.) Among the memo’s condescending suggestions: DeSantis should “attack Joe Biden and the media 3-5 times”; “defend Donald Trump”; and “invoke a personal anecdote story about family, \kids, Casey, showing emotion.” “The governor was furious when the memo was released,” a major donor to the super PAC and campaign told me. “He was apoplectic, as any candidate would be. It made him look like a puppet of Jeff’s, which is as far away from reality as possible.” A prominent Republican close to the DeSantis campaign said: “Ron is telling everyone that the biggest mistake he ever made was hiring Jeff Roe.” (It was the PAC that formally hired Roe while DeSantis was considering his run.) Both sides are pinning the leak of that god awful memo on each other. Meanwhile, someone in the DeSantis campaign has been leaking about Roe. Basically, DeSantis is unhappy that Never Back Down is backing down in the state of Nevada. They are dropping the door to door canvassing in that important state for the nomination. Also, someone has leaked an audio of Roe begging wealthy donors to pony up $50 million for Roe. Not so much for DeSantis but for Roe’s Never Back Down apparatus. Anyway, while those two sides of the same ugly coin are pissing on each other, Gabe Sherman reminds everyone that Ron DeSantis SUCKS AS A CANDIDATE! Furthermore, as I reported in my profile of DeSantis about a year ago, many former DeSantis staffers said the robotic and famously thin-skinned candidate would crash on the national stage. “DeSantis is a distressed stock,” a second GOP operative recently told me. “Reality is hitting. He is a bad candidate,” added a third operative. And that is the most basic fundamental problem that no one can fix. Next, we have Ramaswamy going after dreamers. ORANGE CITY, IA -- Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy says that as president, he would deport American-born children of undocumented immigrants. "The family unit will be deported," said Ramaswamy when asked by NBC News if the deportations would include American-born children, after a packed town hall here Friday. These children, however, are U.S. citizens, regardless of their parents' immigration status. The 14th Amendment states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” When asked again if these children would be deported along with their families, Ramaswamy doubled down. "That is correct," he said. Ramaswamy believes that the 14th Amendment does not establish birthright citizenship. If you are here illegally, your kids are not Americans, or so the reasoning goes. Therefore, out you go you dirty, dirty dish rags you! “There are legally contested questions under the 14th Amendment of whether the child of an illegal immigrant is indeed a child who enjoys birthright citizenship or not,” Ramaswamy said after a town hall in Iowa. Ramaswamy is not the only GOP candidate to question U.S. citizenship rules. Former President Trump announced in late May that on his first day back in office, he would seek to end birthright citizenship by way of an executive order. Despite the GOP candidates’ plans, a majority of Americans said the U.S. should continue to provide birthright citizenship in a poll following Trump’s announcement. Only a quarter of those surveyed said it should end, with 15 percent saying they were not sure. This is a trifecta in a way. Ramaswamy gets to show that he is a hypocrite, a bigot, and an ignoramus all at the same time. Ramaswamy is from “good immigrant” stock, so he gets to stay. All the dreamers are from “bad immigrant” stock, so they have to be deported. And Ramaswamy doesn’t know shit about the government or how it works. Otherwise, he would know that you cannot change a Constitutional Amendment with the stroke of a presidential pen. And his position is only popular among the moronic Trump base voter. It will be a huge turd during the general campaign. But none of these cowards and idiots running on the Republican side can think that far ahead.
