You All Need To Go Ukrainian Bungee Jumping - NOW! [1]

I had originally scheduled a vacation to visit Prague, Budapest and Berlin – three cities I had never been to but had always wanted to. I was traveling alone. After I booked all of my travel, I started becoming more disgusted with the Orban government in Hungary and decided to blow off Budapest. This left my schedule with a week in eastern Europe with no plans.

Then I met a Ukrainian visiting Los Angeles where I live who talked me into going to Ukraine. In spite of our State Dept. travel advisories, there aren’t a lot of people actually getting killed in central Kyiv or Lviv. Also, I’ve know people that have been killed by cars and gun violence in the US so why are we so afraid to travel to Ukraine?

So I did it! I changed my travel plans to spend 3 nights in Kyiv and 3 in Lviv. Getting there was a bit challenging as there are no flights. I had to take a train from Krakow – which made for a very long first day on the train. Also, English is not widely spoken so I found proficiency at Google Translate, Google Maps and Uber to be pretty essential. But boy was it worth it! These are two great European cities with fantastic architecture, nice museums and amazingly resilient and fun loving people. I even went bungee jumping in Kyiv!

You should go there now! Screw our State Department’s silly travel advisory and screw Putin. You will have a great time. You will understand that the Ukrainians will NEVER surrender to Russia. You will want to go back again and help however you can. You may find that you’re not complaining about your own problems as much. For example, I realized that the polarization that we all complain about here is a luxury problem that the Ukrainians can’t afford. You should spend lots of money (it’s hard because it is unbelievably cheap), tip at least 50-100% everywhere (especially because it’s not a tipping culture), tell everyone you meet that we have their back - and you may even try bungee jumping in Kyiv!
