[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-22 I would like to have someone explain to me what ever happened to “Integrity”. When I was a young man, somewhere around 50 years ago, you could make a deal with a handshake and you would rather die than be perceived as a cheat, scoundrel or liar. If you gave your word, that actually meant something and it was important and was your personal seal. Now, it is all about “winning” and some people don’t care what they have to sacrifice to do it. Having a reputation as a cheat and grifter doesn’t seem to have any weight. I meet people every day that I am sure never look in a mirror because they can’t stand the sight of the scoundrel that they would see there. This younger generation, people under 65, screams and beats their chest about Christianity when they have virtually no idea what it is supposed to be. They talk about religion, when modern religion is nothing more than another scheme to make money and control people. Religion is more than going to church and professing to be Christian. Going to church doesn’t make you Christian anymore more than standing in the garage makes you a car. Christianity, in my understanding, is a way of life. It is characterized by acts of charity, empathy for the less fortunate and forgiving those that you feel have offended you. These new Christians have no sense of what it is supposed to be; have they ever fed a homeless person, have they ever come to the aid of someone being accosted on the street or at work, or have they ever forgiven someone for some transgression without first exacting some form of retribution. The younger people seem to have abandoned any of the usually and universally accepted characteristics that actually make you a man and a Christian. And with the monetizing of religion, any compliance to norms of Integrity have gone out the window. In my next submission, I would like to talk about, “Whatever happened to Character?
