[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-25 Just a quick, happy update. Anabel is a four year old orphan girl in Ghana. She was brought to my friend John when her mother became lost in drug abuse and abandoned her. (The mother has since died.) John took her to a shelter for children who are homeless and otherwise in need and we have been supporting her stay there since then. The home is not without its rules. They insisted that Anabel be enrolled in school as a condition of her being able to stay. Of course the little girl needs her schooling and, even more importantly, if she were expelled from the shelter she would once again be without a place to stay. There are homeless children in Ghana who are four years old or even younger. It does happen. The problem is that the tuition for school was more than we could afford. So a very dangerous situation was developing. But a very, very kind benefactor stepped in and donated the money for her tuition and this morning Anabel went to school for the first time. John wouldn’t let me show a photo of Anabel in her school uniform before she actually went to school because he thought that would be lying by claiming she was already attending. So I had to wait. But this morning Anabel went to school for the first time. John took this photo of her and her new classmates and I wanted to share it as soon as possible. (Anabel is, of course, the girl in the center of the crowd, with her arms down and the broad grin.) She seems happy. I just wanted to let everyone know.
