PA Supreme Court: New Poll Has Dan McCaffery (D) Leading Carolyn Carluccio (R) 42-36 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-28 Some very encouraging news today out of Pennsylvania: x Some notes: 1. Casey with solid favorables as expected. Same range as in his prior election bids. 2. An actual realistic measurement of Fetterman's approval. 3. Topline put Shapiro at 62-30, same net approval. I just rounded on the breakdown, so don't pay that much heed. — Joshua Smithley (@blockedfreq) September 28, 2023 Full poll results are here. Here are some breakdowns from PoliticsPA: General Assembly / Others The State House and Senate were blamed equally (24%) for the lack of a finalized budget. The survey indicates that residents of the Commonwealth are not paying as much attention to the drama in Harrisburg as some may think. Nearly of quarter of all those surveyed said they had never heard of Lt. Gov. Austin Davis (24%), House Speaker Joanna McClinton (28%) or Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward (28%). Each had a favorable rating between 1-5 among those who had heard their name. The PA House of Representatives (+2) drew slightly more favorable numbers than the State Senate (-1), while the PA Supreme Court stands at +18 (46-28). Philadelphia’s leaders did not fare as well with Mayor Jim Kenney at minus-13 (22-35) and embattled District Attorney Larry Krasner at minus-12 (21-33). In both cases, however, nearly 1-in-4 indicated that they were not familiar with them. PA Supreme Court Democrat Daniel McCaffery has a 42-36 lead over Republican Carolyn Carluccio for the open Pennsylvania high court seat. FYI: x Carolyn Carluccio cannot be trusted to protect Pennsylvanians’ right to abortion. She may try to shade her views from the public eye, but she cannot pull one over on Pennsylvania voters. https://t.co/6sncbCCn4j — Planned Parenthood Action (@PPact) September 22, 2023 Abortion rights advocates announced on Thursday record spending on this year’s race for a seat on the Pennsylvania supreme court. Planned Parenthood Votes, a Super Pac that supports abortion access, launched a scathing television advertisement against the conservative candidate Carolyn Carluccio. The advertisement calls Carluccio “a threat to our abortion rights” in Pennsylvania. The seven-figure ad buy marks the Pac’s largest investment in a state supreme court race. The move by Planned Parenthood underscores the enduring importance of Pennsylvania as an abortion safe haven for the surrounding region. A spokesperson for Planned Parenthood said Pennsylvania clinics saw an influx of out-of-state patients over the past year, as neighboring states like West Virginia enacted sweeping bans on the procedure. Some more context here: According to the new ad, Carluccio not only deleted her views on abortion from her website, but has been endorsed by the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation and the Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania, both of which oppose abortion. “Pennsylvania Supreme Court candidate Carolyn Carluccio is a threat to our abortion rights,” the ad states. In response to a request for comment, Carluccio campaign spokesperson Rob Brooks said when the campaign redesigned her website “we chose to no longer include a resume link,” which was where Carluccio noted that she would “defend all life under the law.” He added that “Planned Parenthood knows that women’s reproductive rights in Pennsylvania are protected by law, and they also know that Judge Carluccio has made clear she would uphold that law. In fact, her views on this issue have been published on numerous national, state and local news sources.” The Associated Press reported that during the primary campaign, Carluccio’s website referred to her as a defender of “all life under the law,” language which no longer appears on the site. She told the AP in a statement that “Women’s reproductive rights are protected by Pennsylvania law,” and she would uphold that law. SpotlightPA reported that Carluccio has said she rejects “judicial activism.” A judge on the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas since 2010, Carluccio told Ballotpedia in a survey that as a judge she was “impartial and apply the law as it is written. I will not legislate from the bench.” October 23rd is the last to register to vote for the November 7th election. If you or anyone you know in Pennsylvania hasn’t registered to vote yet, click here.
