[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-09-29 The United States Government will run out of money this week end if Congress does not act. This is inevitable given the posture of the House Fredom Caucus. Observers universally see the caucus as determined to “burn the place down.” Historically, shut downs have a negative impact on the economy as a whole. Routine game playing has already caused one credit rating agency to downgrade The United States credit rating. Repeated attempts to extort minoritarian policy goals by using parliamentary tricks will increase borrowing costs and undermine America’s long standing reputation as a well run country. The members of the Freedom Caucus represent roughly 2% of the American population. I truth, they only truly represent the republican citizens in their districts, so their constituency is somewhat smaller than 2%. But even that overstates their loyalties, because in truth , they only really represent the dark money lords who picked them, got them elected, and who keep them in office. Your Government will shut down this weekend because the libertarian fantasies of the handfull of individuals wants this end and will face little fallout from its destructive course. If the nation wants someone to blame for this mess, it isnt Kevin McCarthy, or Marjorie Green, or Matt Gaetz. It is the principal founders and funders of this movement. If there is fallout from this exercise in treachery, it Should be laid at the feet of Charles Koch, Richard Uhlein, Grover Norquist’s Club for Growth, The American Bankers Association, and the National Auto Dealers Association. Once upon a time, politicians had to act with some decorum because they would have to face voters from time to time. Today, thanks to hyper-partisan gerrymandering and unlimited dark money, politicians need only satisfy one or two donors who can fully fund their campaigns. Because the donors deeply desire a government with less power to regulate their predatory practices, they are not concerned that their proxies in Congress are making government look bad. Discrediting Government is the central project of this endeavor. Think of that when you buy Brawny paper towells or shop in the U-line office products catalogue. Remember that when shopping for a car. When you go to your local bank, ask them why their trade association pays for this with one hand, while expressing grave concerns in public. Of course Congress is out of control, these few individuals created this mess on purpose. They should not be spared when this inevitable disaster causes wide spread problems for average Americans.
