As You Claw the Thin Ice [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-01 By David Glenn Cox And in the end, little Matt (Eddy Munster) Gaetz was ignored. The Republican house members walked away from cutting themselves and self-immolation. Little Matty isn’t their leader after all, he’s only a puppet on the end of a string which leads directly to Donald Trump. This was intended to be the Trump shutdown to cause as much distraction, destruction and devastation as in, “you come after me.” Trump’s attempt to send the flying monkeys. Maybe just a case of bad timing really, asking members to choose between Trump and the country. So close to a continuous election season, that is. Now complete with an officially recorded loyalty vote. And it could be unwise to poke the public bear at this date. Trump lost; Republicans broke with Trump. Told to stand and deliver, they walked away in front of God and everybody. Now the storm after the storm as Kevin McCarthy is said to be due praise. Hmmmm…(inset grain of salt here and pull handle.) But obviously, the Trump caucus was a huge pain in Kevin’s ass. Daily threats making outrageous demands and all for nothing and headlines. “We’re gonna take your job Kevin! If you don’t do as we say!” Put yourself in Kevin’s situation. If you give in and kowtow to these crazy people, they will be up your ass about something from now on. A vocal minority of the Reichstag throwing a tantrum and chewing on the carpet for their leader’s love in absentia. Silenced and defeated, humbled. “We’re not going to get pushed around by a handful of (Nazi, author’s opinion) people,” said Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) People not necessarily loyal to the constitution but working for an unelected authoritarian overlord in secret. Told to sit down and shut up, while the grownups are talking. For Kevin it is a victory inside a defeat, as he finally stood up to his own party. He will either gain in authority or be out on his ass presently. In either case, he stood up and said, “fuck you!” at least once, at least. Pushed into a corner Kevin had to fight back. Or he’d have been punked on the prison yard and used from then on. For Matt Gaetz it’s a defeat inside of a defeat, as the bully’s threat has now been challenged. Kevin’s knocked the chip off of Eddy Munster’s shoulder and stepped across this line. Gaetz had tried in vain to get the floor’s attention (when is he not?) before adjournment. Some say it was to call a motion to vacate. (AKA Eddy’s revenge) Gaetz after the fact and after a stinging defeat says he only wanted to call a motion to vote on the adjournment. To keep the house in session over the weekend. To swap funny stories and play Yahtzee, I suppose. But before the fact Matt was demonstrative, “I am concerned that he (Kevin) hasn’t been true to a deal he made to become Speaker of the House,” Matt said. “We made him agree to spending guardrails. He has blown through those guardrails, and even worse, Kevin McCarthy has made multiple contradictory promises to the White House, to appropriators, to House conservatives.” Ironic Republicans would call each other out for the common petty crime of…lying. We are going to shut down the government because KEVIN lied to you? That sort of sounds like an Administrative problem for HR to solve. And not legitimate grounds to shut the government down. The business at hand was avoiding a government shutdown…mission accomplished. Why stay for the weekend? Not a very good excuse, if you ask me. A sort of the dog ate my homework excuse. But for Eddie, I mean Matt, silence really is golden. Just crawl under the trailer and lick your wounds for a few days, until the low IQ voters forget about the defeat of the crazy caucus. Will this event help to unplug the phony Impeachment inquiry? Now, after they’ve dethroned and declawed and defanged orange Humpty Dumpty? Is this a one-off event for Republicans or a turning away? In politics it is sometimes unwise to attach oneself to someone prone to making dangerous and outrageous remarks. It is especially dangerous when that individual is under criminal indictment. Did you happen to see the first plea bargain in the Georgia case? I wonder if there will be any more? Yeah, I wonder! Physics tells us an eccentric orbit can only grow more eccentric, as Donald Trump tells the low IQ voters that we should shoot shoplifters. The death penalty for shoplifting. Armed guards should shoot them as they leave the store. I dare to mention in this over-armed America, that the shoplifters might take offence and as a precaution bring along a gun of their own. It’s all a part of the grand Republican conspiracy of be afraid of “everybody out to get cha!” Store closings are blamed on shoplifting. It’s all a sign my friends! Oh Lawdy, what will we ever do? Hold me; I’m scared! It’s this generation’s Satanic messages on Rock & Roll records. It seems the average low IQ voters have never heard of Internet shopping or can equate 2 + 2 with store closings. Here in Casa Grande, we must be the thieving bunch west of the Pecos as we have empty storefronts all over town. Empty malls, mini malls, strip shopping centers and convenience stores. Such is the future; a place Republicans generally abhor and choose not to visit. But for better or worse those buildings are very expensive. “Don’t use the self-checkout; it costs jobs!” Shop online and maybe they’ll close the whole store. It’s all just Donald Trump talking out of his ass again. As he tries to hang on when all around him see it all slipping away. The Republicans in the house balanced the pros and cons and voted to ignore Donald Trump’s wishes and wants. And General Mark Milley also rebuked Trump saying, “We don’t take an oath to a king or a queen or to a tyrant or a dictator. And we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator. We don’t take an oath to an individual. We take an oath to the Constitution, and we take an oath to the idea that is America, and we're willing to die to protect it.” For Donald Trump, it hasn’t been a good week. It could be that high tide was reached and now begins to flow out. Perhaps the fever has been broken. “If you should go skating On the thin ice of modern life Dragging behind you the silent reproach Of a million tear-stained eyes Don't be surprised when a crack in the ice Appears under your feet. You slip out of your depth and out of your mind With your fear flowing out behind you As you claw the thin ice.” Roger Waters [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/10/1/2196660/-As-You-Claw-the-Thin-Ice Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
