[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-01 Looks like Republican Candidate for KY Governor Daniel Cameron got caught lying again about what his position is on abortion. For those who are not keeping score, Cameron has been getting hit with Beshear TV ads on the issue of abortion, specifically that Cameron does not support exceptions for rape and incest. The TV ads have had their effect because it was only last week that Cameron reluctantly stated he would sign an abortion bill with exceptions for rape and incest IF the state GOP dominated legislature sent it to him. Turns out that the flip flop is now another flip because Cameon is on tape telling a supporter that there would only be exceptions for rape and incest IF THE COURTS MADE HIM DO IT! Confused? So am I to be honest. The Kentucky State Supreme Courth has ruled that the current law banning abortions except for the life of the mother are fine. And the SCOTUS has already overturned Roe, so which court is Cameron talking about? Anyway, here is what happened: LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The complexities of abortion-related politics in the post-Roe v. Wade era continue to put the squeeze on Republican Daniel Cameron, who appeared to redefine his position on Kentucky’s strict anti-abortion law for the second time in two weeks while campaigning for governor. After revealing last week that he would sign legislation adding rape and incest exceptions to the state’s abortion ban, Cameron seemed to take a more hardline stance Wednesday. He did so while trying to reassure someone who claimed to be concerned that he was weakening his anti-abortion position. Cameron indicated that he would support such exceptions “if the courts made us change that law.” “My point was that ... we are in a fight with the courts right now,” Cameron said in an audio recording of the conversation during a campaign stop in London, Kentucky. “And so if the courts were to strike down and say that we needed to add (exceptions), of course I would sign that because I still want to protect life. But that would just be based on if our courts made that change; it wouldn’t be me, proactively.” The only thing I agree on in the above is the word “proactively.” Cameron’s original so called flip flop had a huge loophole in it. If governor, Cameron would only sign an exceptions for rape and incest if the super majority dominated GOP legislature sent him such a bill. Cameron wouldn’t campaign on it or push the legislature. But if it just spontaneously occured as if like a divine conception from the forced birth legislature, OK, Cameron would sign that bill. Now, instead of the forced birth GOP, it’s the courts “forcing” him to allow abortions for victims of rape and incest. The Beshear campaign is thrilled by Cameron’s admission. “The reason he twists himself into knots on answers like this is because he knows the vast majority of Kentuckians find his view cruel and dangerous,” Beshear campaign spokesman Alex Floyd said. Hopefully, Beshear’s campaign will cut another TV ad pointing out Cameron’s two faced position on abortion. I expect Cameron to continue to lie about his abortion stance. This is the oldest campaign trick in the book. Tell diametrically opposed groups what they want to hear to win an election. Politician gives speech to workers promising to support labor unions. Then, he/she gets in front of private audience at the Chamber of Commerce and promises business owners that he/she will push for anti-union laws. This works great if there are no cameras or someone audio taping either event. And it does help if you are a cult leader like Donald Trump. But Daniel Cameron is no Trump. Even Al Cross, a Republican political reporter in KY, says that inauthenticity is deadly in KY. And Beshear is not going to miss taking more punches to Cameron on abortion.
