Today is the First Day of the Rest of Your Election [1]

Today is not the first day of Q4 2023. It is the first day of Q1 Election 2024.

That’s right, there are four full quarters of fundraising between now and Election Day. It’s up to us to make the most of them.

Last week, I was in Washington to attend the memorial for my brother (a bit about him here). Among the speeches was a video message from Howard Dean, who recalled Walter’s unflagging support during Dean’s presidential campaign and his time as DNC Chair.

It is in memory of Walter, and of that time, that I come with a request today.

I know the Democratic National Committee is not universally-beloved here. Many have legitimate complaints on the Committee’s decisions on which races to mix in and which candidates to back. Those who have such complaints are invited to air them in their own posts today.

For now, today, the first day of the rest of the election, remember the other face of the Committee, an organization both national and local, building infrastructure to elect more democrats across the country. That’s the vision that Walter and Howard shared.

It is also a vision shared by President Joe Biden, who, unlike Barack Obama, is building his re-election campaign within the structure of the DNC, not as an outside organization, allowing state and local party orgs and candidates to benefit from the presidential campaign’s fundraising and hiring.

A united campaign-and-Committee strategy offers us a chance not just to keep control of the White House, but to forge majorities up and down the ballot, while building the infrastructure to secure future victories.

That’s why I today, on 10/01, I’m dropping $10.01 on Chairman Harrison and the bunch, and asking you to do the same, to build a better, stronger party for victories next year and beyond.

I know Howard would approve. Walter, as well.
