Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman for their work to chemically decrease innate immunogenicity of RNA, leading to the development of the mRNA vaccines by Moderna and BioNTech Dr. Kariko is a Hungarian-born scientist who emigrated to the US in 1985, worked for many years at UPenn, and had difficulties convincing NIH review panels that her ideas would work, but she persevered. And despite all the difficulties, she proved that she was right. It is a beautiful story and a lesson in science and life. Congratulations!
