Hope It Was Worth It, Kevin [1]

This isn’t much of a diary but I can’t resist the following message to the ex-Speaker of the House:

Well Kevin my boy, I hope it was worth it. You spent your entire adult life seeking the office of Speaker. It was the most important thing in your life — more important than your integrity, more important than your convictions, more important than the good of the country, more important than all the people you hurt by trying to appease your right-wing lunatic caucus to gain power.

You were willing to grovel to despicable ignoramuses like Marjorie Taylor Greene, you were willing to humiliate yourself by flying down to Mar a Lago to single-handedly resurrect Trump’s political life, even though you knew he was totally incompetent and unqualified (not to mention the fact that you had correctly blamed him for the January 6 insurrection just a few weeks earlier), and even though you believed Trump was a Russian agent paid by Putin (“Swear to God. . .”). You were willing to abandon Ukraine in the middle of their offensive, just to pick up a couple of votes. You chose to appease the likes of Scot Perry, Andy Biggs, Matt Gaetz, and the rest of the Republican insurrection caucus. You were willing to break the debt limit deal you had made just a few hours earlier with Biden and the Congressional Democrats.

You did all this in order to gain the office of Speaker. WAS it worth it? You lasted 9 months, and then for the first time in 250 years of American history suffered the ignominy of being kicked out of office — vacated! You accomplished nothing else, not a single piece of major legislation. The first sentence in your obituary will begin “Kevin McCarthy, the only Speaker in history to be removed . . . .” How’s that gonna look for your legacy, Kev? You sacrificed your dignity, your character, your reputation, and your country for 9 months of wielding the gavel. It’s justice, it’s karma. It’s what you deserve, and it would be amusing, in a cynical way, except that you have done so much damage to our country and its people that I cannot laugh. You should have listened to Rick Wilson and realized that “everything Trump touches dies.” What made you think you’d be different?
