[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-03 … Far from it. I do most of my online searches, email accessing and other digital-type activities using my phone. The one thing I don’t like about the cellular mobility device is the auto-correct feature. It may identify something that it determines needs “correcting,” and proceeds to initiate the correction. I find, in many cases, the incorrect word is substituted for the one that I wanted to use. This happens a lot when I’m texting. If I knew how to disable the function I would. Which is sort of the same way I feel about social media - if I could disable the one social media account that I do have, it would be outta here! And, believe me, I’ve tried and, in fact, multiple times. What’s worse, due to a necessary email-address change (my email was hacked), even if I wanted to login to my social media account, I can no longer do that. I’ve looked for contact information on-site to try to notify anyone at the social-media firm of my dilemma, and I cannot locate contact numbers (email or phone) other than those related either to “Legal” or as in regard to investment opportunities. I think I once even tried to go the latter route. I figured it qualified because in attempting to get access, leave a message, submit that message, and then log off or log out (whatever the case may be), I would be investing my time. Hey, it wasn’t specified what type of investment. Long story short, no success there either. There was also a provision for engaging with others through chat. I’m not sure if I went that route. I simply can’t remember. I grew up in the latter half of the 20th century. I was born in 1953. Those were simpler times, or so it would seem. If you bought an appliance, a piece of home audio equipment or an electric tool like a drill, saw, sander or whatever, it came with the full complement of operating instructions. You don’t see that anymore. Now, it seems if you want that kind of detailed information, one must go online. Then you have to know where to search. If you can figure that out, then, since there are so many available reference sites to choose from, you have to decide which one is or which ones are right and do your best not to mistakenly access the illegitimate or suspect sites. To the uninitiated, it’s enough to make one’s head spin. Now, in recalling the “Keep It Simple Silly” or “KISS” principle, apparently there are those in certain technology circles who missed that memo. And, for once I wished they would see what it’s like to be in our shoes so they’d know exactly what it is to wade through all of the associated procedural garbage just to be able to make contact. I even used to work in customer service for a time and I know the importance of not only providing excellent service or support to the client, customer or patron, but recognizing that absent the customer’s patronage, I’m fast out of a job. Of course, these days, much of that responsibility has been taken over and being carried out by automation. Mid-thread I referenced the good ol’ days. I miss those. Maybe now you see why.
