[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-03 Former general and chief of staff John Kelly is now confirming that Trump has nothing but contempt for those who serve in the military. As if this confirmation really is news. I would think Trump publicly shitting and pissing on John McCain would have proved already. But given some of the other “revelations” about Trump from insiders like Cassidy Hutchinson, it seems that Kelly can now work up some small amount of courage to criticize Trump. My response is simply, “Fuck You John Kelly!” You approved of Trump’s cruelty to immigrant children and their families, but only now do you say that Trump is a draft dodging prick who really hates veterans, especially wounded ones. As Secretary of Homeland Security, you were all in for rounding up immigrants as they came across the southern border. And you signed off or went along with the barbaric treatment of those families trying to enter the U.S. I don’t know about anyone else, but I remember all those videos of kids in cages like animals at a zoo. There are still at least 1,000 children who have not been reunited with their families. Kelly was all in on Trump’s cruelty. But not only did Kelly approve of Trump’s cruelty, he knew that Trump was mentally and emotionally unfit to be commander-in-chief of the U.S. military. Kelly left his job in 2018, but he said nothing. He provided a story to The Atlantic back in 2020, but he never confirmed those stories about Trump not wanting to be seen with wounded soldiers or marines. Trump thinks men and women who sacrificed their lives to serve our country are “losers” and “suckers.” Or how Trump didn’t visit the American cemetary at Belleau because the rain would muss his hair. However, it is only now that we get to read this from Kelly: Kelly also slammed Trump as someone "who is not truthful regarding his position on the protection of unborn life, on women, on minorities, on evangelical Christians, on Jews, on working men and women. A person that has no idea what America stands for and has no idea what America is all about." He continued, “A person who cavalierly suggests that a selfless warrior who has served his country for 40 years in peacetime and war should lose his life for treason — in expectation that someone will take action,” an apparent reference to Trump's recent statements about Army Gen. Mark Milley, who just retired as the chairman of the Joints Chief of Staff. “A person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators. A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law.” “There is nothing more that can be said,” Kelly added. “God help us.” Would you look at that! Kelly is now an anti-Trumper! It’s a miracle! That’s sarcasm for anyone who didn’t get that last sentence. What’s galling about Kelly is that he didn’t bring all this out in the open while Trump was president, especially since Trump was calling Kelly’s son a “loser” and “sucker.” Kelly’s son was killed in Afghanistan back in 2010. And here is what Kelly had to say when Trump tried to claim that Obama NEVER made a condolence call to Kelly: “You know, one of the things about losing any child ― and you can’t imagine until it happens, and I hope to God it never does for you or anyone ― and it doesn’t ― it doesn’t matter how they die. “To lose a child is ― I can’t imagine anything worse than that. I used to think, when I’d go to all of my trips up to Bethesda, Walter Reed, I’ll go to the funerals with the secretaries of defense, that I could somehow imagine what it would be like. “Or when I would send young people back from Iraq that died under my command, to somehow try ― as you write those letters, to try to somehow sympathize. And I ― you know, I lost a father, I lost a mother. So you kind of think it’s something like that, but it’s not. It’s nothing like that. “And so, as a ― as a person that’s lost a ― a child in combat ― and the strong one in all of this is my wife, Karen and ― and ― and my ― my two kids. But when you lose one in combat, there’s ― there’s a ― in my opinion, there’s a pride that goes with it, that he didn’t have to be there doing what he was doing. “He wanted to be there. He volunteered. Generally speaking, there’s no encouragement in our society today to serve the nation, but many, many, many people do, in uniform, as ― in the military, as well as police officers and CIA and FBI. “So I think they’re special people, but they were doing what they wanted to do, and they were with who they wanted to be with, when they lost their lives. But I can tell you, it is the most ― it caught me by surprise, the level of emotional impact, and every single day it continues that. So WTF? I simply do not get that. You are working for a man who insults you and your dead son, and you do next to nothing about it until it is too late to make any damn difference. Was Trump’s policies so wonderful that you had to take his hatred and contempt in order to carry them out? So called conservative politicians and some ex military leaders loved to paint Democrats as incapable of understanding national security and being commander-in-chief. They created a charicature of some hippie liberal elitist who never served and wanted to actually destroy the American military. And I recall hearing a lot of grumpy senior military leaders talking smack about President Clinton being a pot smoking draft dodger. The message was that only Republicans could appreciate the military and their efforts. But Trump is that charicature come to life, only it’s a fascist wannabee dictator spewing out vile comments and denigrating the men and women who help protect our freedoms. I can only assume that someone like Kelly failed to recognize the threat of Trump because had an R by his name. And Trump is the protecting of white male supremacy, so he can’t be all bad! No, I’m not for giving Kelly any credit for finally confirming what most of us already knew. In fact, it just pisses me off. When the nation needed an important insider like Kelly to tell the truth to the American people about how dangerous Trump was, no one appeared. They all kept quiet until Trump was out of office. Fuck you Kelly!
