Democratic House Staffer Points Out That McCarthy Wanted Democrats To Vote "No" On CR last Saturday. [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-04 I read this on Digby’s Blogspot, but a Democratic House staffer wrote on X (Twitter) that McCarthy’s last minute Continuing Resolution (CR) proposal last Saturday was actually a ruse to get Democrats to BALK and vote against keeping the government open. The Democratic House staffer, Aaron Fristchner, states that all Bat Signals pointed to an imminent government shutdown, then McCarthy sprung a 71 page bill that cut out Ukraine aid. Fristchner and the other Democrats believed that this was a bad faith effort to make Democrats vote against the CR and get all the blame for a government shutdown. I urge folks to go read it for themselves. But it makes sense, especially since McCarthy went on CBS on Sunday and said that Democrats were nearly responsible for shutting down the government because they were dragging this process out. Now, McCarthy has been lying about Democrats since forever, but even Brennan of CBS laughed out loud at this bullshit assertion of McCarthy’s. Could that have been a canned line McCarthy for his bad faith strategy? Remember, McCarthy is not the sharpest knife in the Republican drawer. If you start with the sane premise that McCarthy has been known to fuck up in public (Bhengazi Hearing and Hillary Clinton for one great example), it’s possible to see that he was trying to jam Democrats. And when Democrats didn’t follow the script, McCarthy went into automatic and hoped no one would notice that the government didn’t actually shutdown. McCarthy is really that stupid when it comes to political stategy.
