A fool and his money are soon parted - Mike Lindell says "All of it is gone" as his lawyers quit [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-05 The defense attorneys representing Mike Lindell and MyPillow in the defamation lawsuits filed by Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems have filed a motion to withdraw from representing the election denier. They claim the pillowman has stiffed them for “millions of dollars." Lindell does not dispute the claim. In an interview with NBC News, after the law firm Parker Daniels Kibort quit on him, Mike said, "We've lost everything, every dime. All of it is gone." Note: I am not sure who “we” is. He claimed he would keep paying his attorneys if he could. And he wasn't sure if he would represent himself in the future. "This just happened today," he told NBC. Such is the decline and fall of someone in Trump’s orbit. There is always a possibility that Lindell is hiding money somewhere — after all, he plays for a team that places no value on honesty — but after retailers dumped My Pillow and its toxic association, I am inclined to believe that Lindell is telling the truth — and faces financial ruin. Mike is not alone. He joins Rudy Giuliani — and all the other Trump acolytes — as someone who has sacrificed cash, career, and reputation for someone else’s cause. That is the nature of cults. Lindell is a hyperactive motormouth. But there must have been quiet moments, probably late at night, when in moments of reflection, he asked himself, ” What the fuck was I thinking?" Or perhaps he does not. It is hard for a rational person to understand how someone could throw it all away on a doomed cause — for no reward. Does Lindell wonder how he arrived on bankruptcy’s doorstep while the leader of the anti-democratic coup attempt is cosseted by the millions thrown at him by deluded MAGAs? Or is Mike’s mental state such that Trump’s perfidy is too awful to contemplate? I suppose only a psychiatrist/psychologist could say for sure. Trump himself is facing calamitous financial straits — while also staring at a prison door — but he is backstopped by a rabid base, a GOP running interference, and possibly a four-year hiatus on legal action if he can get his slavish base to the polls, while anti-Biden liberals cast spoiler votes. Lindell does not have that luxury. It is now just him, his worthless checkbook, and a future of bitter self-recrimination alternating with crying jags where he blames his fall on evil socialists or some other fairy tale monster. There was once a time when I had the humanity to feel sorry for people like Lindell. But the last eight years of virulent and sadistic conservatism have hardened my heart. And I cannot forgive all the actors — including this hollow man — who enabled that.
