Dianne Feinstein [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-05 Six years ago I wrote a dairy about the women that inspired Sec. Hillary Clinton, whom she wrote about in her book, What Happened. One of the women she included in the list was Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Here’s what I wrote in my diary about her. Most of us know her as one of the current US Senators from California, a position she has held since 1992. She burst onto the national public scene after the tragic shooting of SF Mayor Moscone, and her colleague on the SF Board of Supervisors, Harvey Milk. Her passion for gun control is likely influenced by the experiences of that tragic day and it is worth watching the video of her announcing the deaths. x YouTube Video Feinstein subsequently was elected Mayor of SF and served until early 1988. During her time as Mayor, she worked to bring the budget under control; rebuilt the cable car system, and encouraged downtown development. Senator Feinstein is the Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and also serves on the critically important Senate Intelligence Committee. Related to that committee assignment, she denounced CIA actions in 2014, as then acting Chair of the Intelligence Committee regarding an alleged covert search of committee member’s computer files... Sen. Dianne Feinstein said CIA Director John Brennan told her in January that agency personnel searched the computers last year because they believed the panel's investigators might have gained access to materials on an internal review they were not authorized to see. "The CIA did not ask the committee or its staff if the committee had access to the internal review or how we obtained it," Feinstein said in blistering remarks on the Senate floor. "Instead, the CIA just went and searched the committee's computer.” Some of you may recall that she also brokered a pivotal “peace agreement” in US politics when, Days after Obama amassed enough delegates to win the Democratic Party nomination, Feinstein lent her Washington, D. C., home to both Clinton and Obama to have a private one-on-one meeting. Clinton wrote about that meeting in her book, Hard Choices. Senator Feinstein is a moderate Democrat who is popular enough in her own state that… In 2012, Feinstein claimed the record for the most popular votes in any U.S. Senate election in history, having received 7.75 million votes. Sure, California has lots of voters, but she broke the record previously held by Senator Boxer. Impressive, just the same. As a former Californian, I was able to vote for her three times and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again next year. Personally, I find her to be smart, (no surprise, she’s a Stanford grad), hard working, and an excellent Democrat. It’s reasonable to have policy differences, but that’s not enough for me to vote against a Democratic Senator or Representative with such seniority and history of good work. I know there are people that think she’s too old to run again, but I am firmly against ageism. My first time voting, a Republican ran a successful campaign based on ageism against Washington state’s powerful senior Senator, Warren G Magnuson. The state was hurt by his loss and it has bothered me ever since. www.cnn.com/… en.wikipedia.org/… [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/10/5/2197623/-A-heartfelt-goodbye-to-Sen-Dianne-Feinstein?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=more_community&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
