Biggest Health Care Strike in History Enters Second Day [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-05 Yesterday I talked to a strike captain from the SEIU at the strike. They have no strike fund, they’ve never gone on strike before. A van load of scabs was brought in early in the morning, they’re getting paid 80 dollars an hour to scab. This morning I opened the paper of record to find an op ed using the strike as a jumping off point for an essay on how the US health care system isn’t working. The Kaiser Strike Isn't Your Typical Labor Action NYT The strike is only scheduled to last 3 days, everyone striking is losing money every day of the strike. I’m not sure how things will go. The nurses I talked to yesterday were into it. We’ll see. There just seems to be not much support for the working class in this country of late. Thousands of health care workers died of covid, now it’s like “meh, ya, whatever”. Many support scabs when it’s people in the trades who are losing their jobs. I have nothing against scabs as people, I simply don’t support them taking jobs. Currently over 100 thousand workers are on strike, 25,000 auto workers making big news, and 70,000 mostly women nurses that hardly rate a mention. I’d like to see a general strike, where everything is shut down for a day just to flex the muscles of the working class.
