Photo Diary: Tulsa Zoo [1]

A nice midsize city zoo.

Some personal history: my beginning in politics was wayyyy back in the early 80s when our local school board in Pennsylvania tried to push an “equal time for creationism” policy into effect, and I helped organize a local coalition to fight it. During this time one of the creationist organizations tried to pressure the Tulsa Zoo into removing an informational sign that compared chimps with humans, and I wrote them a letter urging them to not cave in. The director wrote me a nice letter back saying that the zoo taught science, not mythology—and the zoo then told the creationists to pretty much piss off.

For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit.
