AZ-Sen: Ruben Gallego (D) OWNS Kari Lake (R) Again, This Time On The Same Flight They Were Both On [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-06 Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time: x Hey @KariLake we're on the same plane! Just come back from first class to coach and we can chat. ⁰⁰Happy to walk you through all my legislative work to deliver key resources to AZ's border communities. https://t.co/4MiJHjFxoB — Ruben Gallego (@RubenGallego) October 5, 2023 Republican Kari Lake and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) put their beefs in their full upright position during a flight the senatorial candidates shared by chance on Thursday. The early frontrunners for the 2024 Arizona race sparred over the Mexican border wall after an announcement that the Biden administration was permitting construction to resume on about 20 miles of wall in South Texas ― and waiving federal laws to do so. The Trump-worshiping Lake linked to the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, and asked the progressive ex-Marine Gallego, “Hey, Ruben, do you still believe that a border wall is racist” and accused the congressman of “facilitating an invasion.” Noticing that the two were on the same plane from Washington, D.C., to Phoenix, Gallego tweeted: “Hey @KariLake we’re on the same plane! Just come back from first class to coach and we can chat. Happy to walk you through all my legislative work to deliver key resources to AZ’s border communities.” Lake then took this pathetic move as soon as they landed: x .@KariLake confronts Democrat opponent on the border LAKE: “ I’m not working together with you, I’m going to beat you.” pic.twitter.com/wMbC7iGF4O — Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) October 6, 2023 Once the plane had landed and Mr. Gallego was stepping off it, Ms. Lake ambushed him with questions, wearing a lapel mic while a phone camera recorded, according to people familiar with the exchange. Mr. Gallego announced his bid for the seat in January. In the Republican primary, Ms. Lake will face Mark Lamb, a right-wing sheriff and an ally of former President Donald J. Trump. Ms. Lake, a hard-right Republican, was in Washington this week meeting with several G.O.P. members of the Senate. She is scheduled to hold her first rally as a candidate next week. FYI: A powerful abortion-rights group is throwing its support behind Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego in the Arizona Senate race after having backed Democratic-turned-independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in her last election. Reproductive Freedom for All, formerly known as NARAL Pro-Choice America, a key organization that funds candidates who support abortion rights, is officially endorsing Gallego on Wednesday, it said in an announcement first shared with NBC News. Gallego announced his run against Sinema in January, after she left the Democratic Party and became an independent late last year. Sinema has not publicized her re-election plans yet, but she has been preparing to run again, including quietly pitching herself to donors, NBC News has reported. The organization’s move to back Gallego is notable — Reproductive Freedom for All was one of many like-minded groups that endorsed Sinema’s campaign for the Senate in 2018, in which its affiliated super PAC, Women’s Choice, spent over $1.3 million in support. And Sinema has been a reliable vote for abortion rights during her time in Congress. She pledged to maintain that record after she switched party affiliations, and NARAL’s most recent congressional score card, published in 2021, listed her with a 100% record. Also: Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) hauled in more than $3 million in the third quarter of fundraising this year in the Arizona Senate race, his campaign announced Thursday. Gallego’s campaign received donations from more than 56,000 donors during the third quarter, with the average donation being $28 from 106,000 contributions his campaign received. He ended the quarter with more than $5 million in the bank. Gallego’s third-quarter fundraising is roughly the same as what his campaign reported last quarter, which was $3.1 million. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), who has not yet said whether she’s running for reelection, brought in $1.6 million during the second quarter. Sinema’s campaign has not yet reported third-quarter fundraising numbers yet. Health and Democracy are on the ballot again and we need to keep Arizona Blue.
