Did You Know Congress has an Animal Protection Caucus? [1]

I recently received this e-mail from my congressional representative, Mr. Lou Correa, CA-46, about legislation and policies to support animal welfare:

As a member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, I’ve supported policies that promote animal welfare—and I am proud to say I currently have a score of 100% on the Humane Society’s legislative scorecard. I firmly believe in the enforcement and expansion of the Animal Welfare Act of 1966, and I am a cosponsor of the Puppy Protection Act to require breeders and adoption centers to provide dogs adequate housing, exercise, and veterinary care.



During my time in Congress, I have cosponsored legislation such as the SAFE Act, which would prohibit sending horses and other equines to slaughterhouses, whether in the United States or abroad. These animals are part of our families, so it’s only right that we treat them with the respect they deserve.



My work is not limited to our domesticated friends. I have also cosponsored legislation such as the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, which would provide resources for some of our most threatened and endangered wildlife. I voted to pass this legislation last Congress, and I was happy to see this essential bill pass the House on June 14, 2022.



Rest assured, I will continue to support legislation and policies that ensure ethical treatment of all animals. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future on other topics of concern to you.
