ICYMI series - 3: Material shown in 3 Bourne films that maybe? shouldn’t have been [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-06 “And, action!” The best dialogue exchange between two people in a Bourne movie was the one that occurred between Aaron Cross (played by Jeremy Renner) and Outcome #3 (played by Oscar Isaac). A lot of it is serious, but at the same time, it is light-hearted, and it’s done with just a hint of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. The movie is Bourne Legacy. The best part in any Bourne film is in the fifth movie, named simply Jason Bourne. The part involves an agency asset whose mission is to end three different people’s lives: Deep Dream’s Aaron Kaloor (played by Riz Ahmed), Jason Bourne (played by Matt Damon) and intelligence officer Heather Lee (played by Alicia Vikander). The assassin (played by Vincent Cassel) failed in his mission to successfully carry out even one of those assignments, let alone three. In that movie production got that part right, I am hereby giving credit where credit is most deservedly due. Now to the meat of the matter: scenes that were better off not being included. “Cut!” I’ll start with Bourne Ultimatum. The movie premise was actually pretty good. The material in this film that should have been excluded is the part where Guardian newspaper security correspondent Simon Ross returns to London, England via its Heathrow Airport and there is a scene where Ross is on his cell phone. It can be assumed that the security correspondent is chatting with his editor. While walking through the airport terminal, Ross asks the person with whom he is speaking, if they have heard of “Operation Blackbriar.” Operation Blackbriar, as I understand it and as portrayed in the movie, was a (fictional) secretive intelligence-agency operations program, designed to lay waste to any terrorist threat, foreign or domestic, against the U.S. Ross referred to it in the film as a “Treadstone upgrade.” Assuming that the person with whom Ross was speaking was Ross’ editor, the real question here is how in the world would Ross’ boss ever be privy to that kind of information? After all, it was Ross himself who had just had a meeting only hours before in Turin, Italy with agency staff member Neil Daniels, the source of the leaked info. and Ross’ contact. The phone conversation was, therefore, unnecessary. Since Ross was putting together the Bourne-story exclusive, the assumption is the intelligence agency would as well be in the loop and, as such, monitoring Ross’ every move in response. Being it should have been obvious to intelligence that Ross was engaged in this type of reporting, a focus in the movie should instead have been on uncovering just who Ross’ source was. That source, as it turned out, the agency believed, was Jason Bourne. But, then again, that may have been too much of a departure from the companion-book storyline for film-production’s liking. Who knows?! Okay, so moving on. Next up, Bourne Legacy. The movie material that should have been deleted has to do with the motor cycle antics in the city of Manila in the Philippines. The chase scene was just so unrealistic. Another unnecessary part was when Aaron Cross swiped the watch off the arm of the med lab person in charge. So, what, Cross knew beforehand that he was going to need that watch as inducement or enticement for getting someone to help both he and Dr. Marta Shearing (played by Rachel Weisz) could make a quick getaway? Just who does movie production think it’s trying to fool here?! And, finally, in the fifth Bourne episode, there is no part that should have been omitted. All had something of substance to add to the story. What I will say, on the other hand, is in regards to the on-screen acting, it could definitely have been better. As a case in point, the on-screen exchange between Jason Bourne and the security consultant located in the U.K., in my opinion, where this was concerned, had much to be desired and I’ll leave it at that. “That’s a wrap!” [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/10/6/2197789/-ICYMI-series-3-Material-shown-in-3-Bourne-films-that-maybe-shouldn-t-have-been?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=latest_community&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
