Sources of Info [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-06 Here are a few sources for information, especially about actions, to take for the biosphere. Please add to the list in the comments and annotate with what source is about and what it’s useful for. Grist — An excellent environmental news site for the layperson with a strong focus on action. They publish new stories 5 days a week. (grist.org) How We Survive — This is a podcast series from Marketplace. I haven’t listened to the podcasts yet, but tend to find Marketplace’s environmental reporting thorough and honest, though always framed by money. Yale Climate Connections — This is an excellent, thoughtful information source with a tilt toward research, both in looking at impacts and solutions for biosphere crisis events. Environmental Health News — This site is exactly as described in the title: it provides news about the impacts of environmental issues on human health. This site also does a good job of focusing on indigeneous, BIPOC, and frontline communities. Planet Ark News — This is a worldwide environmental news source that focuses strongly on solutions. It doesn’t publish new pieces as often as I would like, but the pieces it does put up tend to be very good. EcoWatch — EcoWatch has all the awful headlines and terrifying news stories at the top of the page, but scroll down to the Learn About Solutions and Explainers sections and you’ll find a wealth of information on what we can do and how to do it. Environmental Working Group — More commonly known as the EWG, this site is where to go if you want to get into the weeds for the practical individual items you use everyday. Seriously. Look up the exact brand and type of personal care products you use to see exactly what’s in them and how those ingredients impact you and the environment. It’s an immediate life-changer for most Americans. Inside Climate News — Exactly as described, this site is all climate news all the time. The reporting is just the facts, leaving emotional and other reactions to the reader. Climate Matters — This is more a step removed from the general public, but it’s a project by Climate Central to get real climate reporting resources to meteorologists who report on climate and weather to the general public. Scroll down the page to find the resources you’re most likely to use. Purple Air — This is much more specific but important, and the link may take you to SF (sorry) but, if so, reset it to your location. Also set it to EPA PM 2.5 and see what’s going on locally, then find some fires (it’s not difficult, just look for the purple dots) [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/10/6/2197803/-Wanna-Help-The-Biosphere-Sources-of-Info?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=latest_community&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
