For those keeping score at home, about that "unprecedented" [1]

For those keeping score at home, there’s a word getting quite a workout lately: unprecedented.

Oxford Languages un·prec·e·dent·ed /ˌənˈpresədən(t)əd/ adjective never done or known before. "the emphasis has been on shaping bold solutions to save lives and livelihoods in these unprecedented times"

It’s being used to describe the first ever removal of the Speaker of the House. So yes, it not having ever been done before, it is unprecedented. Republicans have been doing that a lot lately.

A few other “unprecedenteds” come to mind.

A former president calling for summary execution of shoplifters

A former president implying the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff should be executed for treason.

A former president found guilty of wide scale long term business fraud

A former president found guilty of sexual abuse by a jury in a civil trial

A former president facing multiple criminal indictments.

A former president sharing stolen classified material to impress random visitors

A president inciting a violent attempt to overturn the results of an election

A president who refused to concede an election

A president who was impeached twice

A president who publicly stated he trusted Vladimir Putin more than U.S. Intelligence agencies.

A president who called Nazis “very fine people”

A president who racked up an astounding total of lies and disinformation

A president who used a Sharpie to redirect a hurricane.

A political party whose leading presidential candidate has accomplished all of the above

A political party complaining the opposition party refused to bail them out of their own mess

There’s more, but I expect that’s enough to suggest the times we are living in are unprecedented squared. Feel free to suggest more in comments.
