What the Senatorial Dress Code Should REALLY Be [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-07 The Senate fumbled on its John-Fetterman-inspired attempt at a formal dress code. First, they didn’t specify what the dress code would be beyond “business attire” for men. Second, the Senate didn’t specify what “business” that the attire had to be for:. What about trucking? Nursing? Trapeze artists? There’s surely a “business” somewhere that John Fetterman’s attire is suited for. And they specified nothing for women. So I suppose that gold lame evening gowns are just fine. Though not for men. (But who knows, if it’s “business attire?”) So if the Senate is so concerned about what’s proper, there’s only one real solution: unisex uniforms. Gowns. Like academic gowns… but not exactly. My wife drew up a gown that would work: for the Senate AND the Congress (and even the chief executive). That’s her drawing you see above, along with explanations of the pins and patches. And some attitude. Just throw it on over your clothes and you’re proper. As you ever are, anyway. In case you can’t read my wife’s explanation in the graphic, here it is: Proposed Dress Code for United States Senate and Congress Short black gown, worn at all times when in The House, The Senate, The White House and offices adjacent thereto. Two patches on left, upper front: Stars and Stripes above the legislator’s State Flag. One round pin (3/8 inch) for each elected term worn on upper right front. Silver-ish for representatives, gold-ish for senators, artificial diamond set in silver-ish pin for ice president, and artifical diamon set in gold-ish pin for president. Garments worn under the gown to be legilator’s personal choice, although nudity is discourage unless the air temperatue is above 100 degrees F in chambers. It would work for John Fetterman. It’d work for everyone. Why should the Supreme Court have all the fun?
