Why the Military Shaves Recruit's Heads [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-07 Archaeologist Madeleine Mumcuoglu was examining objects in storage at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She noticed faint letters engraved on a 3,700 year old ivory artifact. These letters are the oldest known full sentence to use a alphabetic script. Really old, before even: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” was written down. The creator of this tool scratched the wish to the user “May this tusk root out the lice of the hair and the beard.” The comb worked. The teeth contained bits of the insect and nits. They are still the bane of school children. Nearly 4 millennium later the Camp Hill School District website contains a Pennsylvania Department of Health Fact Sheet on head lice. Helpful CDC graphic The CDC estimates that 6 to 12 million lice infestations occur in the United States each year to children 3 to 11 years old. There are around 32 million that age. Odds are if you are around children that age you will learn about head lice. It is not widely spoken of because ---YUCK! There is Secret information, Top Secret Information and then there is “My kid has head lice.” Admitting that is to take the blame for infecting all the other kids at school. Teachers have developed procedures to keep the problem at a low level. School nurses discuss various policies to combat the insects and minimize panic. In these modern times new programs are being developed for educational institutions to solve wide spread problems. Surely the same tools which are used to fight the Culture Wars will work as well for all problems. First: Recognize the problem. Head lice can make innocent children feel uncomfortable. It can make some feel uncomfortable because of race. The CDC Frequently Asked Questions on the subject contains this Critical Race Theory tinged statement: “infestation with head lice is much less common among African-Americans than among persons of other races, possibly because the claws of the head louse found most frequently in the United States are better adapted for grasping the shape and width of the hair shaft of other races.” This CDC information and other School should be removed from school websites and publications. Remove all books about or mentioning lice from the Library and Textbooks which have not been certified by Moms for Liberty. Paying special attention to Biology Textbooks and Insect Collections. Sanction librarians and teachers who do not comply. Second: Bring back religion in school. Bible in every class1 . Have school prayer2 in first period. But Seriously: Take these steps and we will have ignorant and lousy students. The same applies to using these techniques on Race, History and Gender issues. Off years are School Board Elections in many places. Learn about your school board candidates and vote. For those in Camp Hill Pennsylvania vote for the Pro Education slate: BOWEN CONNELLY GALE HOWARD MCINROY Sure two of them are Republicans, but they are sane ones. Last year a motion was defeated by a 7-2 vote that would have removed a social studies book because it contained a description of January 6th 2021. There are other candidates out there who would care more about ideology than education. Note 1: Do a Thomas Jefferson on the bit about a plague of lice in Exodus. Note 2: I tried to pray away my son’s lice years ago when he was in third grade. The Lord said she was busy and I should go down to CVS, get some RID shampoo, a fine toothed comb and follow the directions on the back of the box.
