To GOP blaming Democrats: Would you have saved Pelosi? [1]

Imagine, if you will….

It is 2021. Nancy Pelosi is Speaker of the House, leading with the slimmest of majorities. The Progressive Caucus in the House, tired of acquiescing to Pelosi and the moderate wing of the Democratic Party with all of the compromises made in pushing Joe Biden’s agenda, makes rumblings about removing her as speaker. While there is no consensus to do so, a group of progressives, following the lead of Ilhan Omar and AOC, make a motion to vacate to speaker position.

Republicans, concerned about having a functioning democracy, a looming government shutdown and being lumped in as voting with AOC and Omar, rally behind Pelosi, voting to keep her as speaker and preserving normalcy…..

It is hilarious to see the conservative media outlets and the non-crazy members of the GOP blaming the Democrats for their current fiasco in the House.

All of those Republicans being interviewed on the talk shows and news programs should be asked one simple question:

Had Nancy Pelosi been in a similar situation as what McCarthy faced, would they have voted to keep Pelosi as speaker?

Of course not. They hated her. They would have loved to have seen the Democrats in disarray. They would have been crucified in both their caucus and their home districts for casting a vote to keep the devil on her throne.

Democrats can point to the many, many reasons for voting to vacate—McCarthy’s reneging on deals, his votes regarding Jan. 6, his handing of the Jan. 6 committee, his unilateral decision to start an unfounded impeachment inquiry into Biden, etc.

But, in the end, the most compelling reply to those blaming Democrats, is this question: WWRD?

What would Republicans do, if they were in a similar situation?

Given that only one person was required to make the motion, would they, as the minority party, have even been so bold to initiate that motion to vacate?
