A short brutal letter lays bare why Jim Jordan would be a disastrous Speaker [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-09 Jim Jordan is Donald Trump’s choice for Speaker. That alone proves he is a dangerous and unqualified man for the job. At the kick-off of his administration, Trump picked some cabinet members for their ability and professionalism. They were gone by half-time. From then on, he only selected his department heads from his carefully curated pool of vaunted ass-kissers. His embrace of knob polishers extended to the legislature. To win a pat on the head from the MAGA cult leader, a host of craven conservatives bent the knee to receive a golden shower of approbation. Jim Jordan was front and center. Every politician is a blend of their philosophy and personality. Back in the day, Barry Goldwater embraced a hawkish libertarianism that even some in his party criticized as demagoguery, but he was considered a decent man. Reagan, the man who campaigned on denigrating government — and opened the door to many Americans’ current distrust of government — convincingly faked sincerity and bonhomie. However, there was another conservative type — unmitigated shits like Joe McCarthy. It was not enough for him to pursue his crusade. He also had to pick on the powerless, claim proof he did not have, and impugn the patriotism of government workers simply doing their jobs. Jim Jordan embraces his fellow megalomaniac's aggressive incivility. Who Jordan is was revealed early in his career as an assistant wrestling coach at OSU. He is a bully who, through fear and sadism, willingly covered up the sexual abuse of young men entrusted to his care. He has been doing the same in Congress since he got there — metaphorically speaking (I hope). Now Jordan is potentially the next Speaker of the House. Randall Morrison of Columbus, Ohio, thinks he is the favorite. This Buckeye shared his feelings in a letter to The Columbus Dispatch. Here is the text: Electing Jim Jordan speaker would be a catastrophe for America With Trump’s endorsement, I am assuming Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, will win. That is a catastrophe for America. There is no worse human being to have a leadership position than Jim Jordan. Terrible for policy — Ukraine, the economy, the planet and justice for those not like him. It would be terrible for "process" — the end of civility and finding a problem-solving path forward as well as strong democratic institutions. That catastrophe ultimately means one of two things: either all hope is lost or the resulting turmoil breaks the MAGA fever before it is too late. Because of our constitutional structural vulnerabilities, I fear the worst. Randal Morrison, Columbus Randall is right. One of history’s harshest lessons is that countries are vulnerable to factions of sociopathic nihilists who will sacrifice the well-being of their fellow citizens on the altar of their depraved ambition. No nation that has fallen victim to fascism, communism, or any other flavor of totalitarianism has survived the catastrophe, let alone prospered. At the remains of the day, both victims and supporters of autocracy become equal casualties of the force they respectively resisted and fostered. It is the bitter parity of the damned. In other words, there are no winners when the Jim Jordans of the world take their orders from autocrats.
