Moving into a new musical stage in my life [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-09 Yesterday was my 60th birthday. Yeah, me. I’ve survived another spin around the sun, now to finally get serious about some stuff. I’m starting a new stage of my life, one focused heavily on music but also on issues and critical subjects. To that end, I’ve started a brand new Patreon page — patreon.com/VyanMakesMusic — where I will release my musical endeavors starting with some improv Guitar noodling as shown but going much much further. In the next few weeks, I’m going to be releasing Vocal Covers of various Rock and Pop songs. Some of these I’ve already done, and some I need to do some more work on. Some of the tracks include “Wasted Time” by Skid Row, “Jesus Christ Pose” by Soundgarden, “Head Like a Hole” by Nine Inch Nails, “Crawling” by Linkin Park and “Best of Both Worlds” by Van Halen. Future videos will feature a short discussion of the song and why it was selected followed by a short snippet of the performance. Full tracks will be available for download on Patreon. Also on Patreon for download will be tracks from some of my solo and group original and cover projects. 20 years ago in 1998. I recorded an album with the local Sacramento Rock band Planet X on vocals and keys. x In 2004 i worked with yet another group from the Sacramento area called “Glitched” on vocals. x In 2008 I recorded a solo record entirely on my own doing vocals, guitars, bass and drum programming called “Re-evolutionize” which featured 12 tracks. x In the last year, I’ve written and recorded about 20 new tracks for my second solo album which is a work in progress. I have yet to write the lyrics and record the vocals but as that process moves forward I will release the songs on my Patreon one by one adding them to the previous collection of original tracks and covers. Lyrically I plan to create a mix between classic U2 and Rage Against the Machine with a focus on the same types of national and current events that we write about here. As a direct response to Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” I’ve already written a song called “Small Town Values.” An excerpt. Small town values killed Emmet Till They fueled race riots In Columbia And Lychings that happen still Small town values killed MLK You want to celebrate his life While caring nothing about his strife Nobody wants crime and We all want Justice Why is it every time there’s A villain to destroy It’s always just us Everyone want a fair shake Everyone wants a chance But that’s pretty difficult With a sundown town stance They say judge by character and not by skin But when exactly did that start Exactly when did that begin We no longer have Woody Guthrie with a direct response and commentary on our current world. The music industry pushes back against artists who speak out — just look at how they’ve responded to Taylor Swift for just barely mentioning that she opposes Senator Marsha Blackburn and supports people voting. U2 has moved into other areas, and it’s been more than 20 years since Rage Against the Machine — which features and old acquaintance of mine Tom Morello on guitar — has really been producing new music. It’s about time that someone stood up and started speaking out about what’s going on in this world inside the music industry. That’s what I’ve always done, and that’s what I intend to do. Hopefully, some of you can check it out and enjoy it.
