Chesebro's RICO attorney accuses Willis of playing politics - while he plays politics [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-10 After witnessing a circus carousel of conservatives accusing others of the acts they themselves have committed, Americans have added “projection” to their vocabulary. In a Fulton County courtroom today, a MAGA attorney submitted another example. Scott Grubman represents Kenneth Chesebro — one of Trump’s stable of election deniers. He told the Judge in the case, Scott McAfee, that DA Fani Willis was "trying to prosecute the Republican Party." His exact words were. “It's a serious issue. And I am not trying to point fingers or anything, but my reading of the state submission was essentially there was one question. And it was worded slightly different, but essentially my read was, “Are you a Republican?" That's the state submission, “Are you a Republican? And while that might be a moot point … It's not those exact words … But clearly that's what they're asking. They have nothing about any other political party. They simply say, “did you volunteer for the Republican party?” Invariably, when someone says, “I am not trying to point fingers,” that is precisely what they are doing. Grubman is no exception. In addition, he is accusing the prosecution of sins based not on what they said but what he has decided they meant — “essentially, my read was.” When Grubman says, “Clearly that’s what they were asking,” he again admits that was not what they were asking. Unsurprisingly, what the prosecution did ask is substantively different from what Grubman says they asked. We know this because Grubman spelled out the prosecution’s question that had upset him so — to wit, “Did you volunteer for the Republican party.” I do not have the figures, but of the millions of Americans who have voted Republican recently, I suspect that significantly less than 1% volunteered for the party. Essentially, my read is that Willis is trying to identify the small number of Republicans in Fulton County who are active GOPers, not the 99% (my working number) whose only political act was voting Republican. Grubman expanded Willis’ ambition when he credited her with aspirations she had never enumerated. “They’re going to try to get all the people off the jury who have ever, you know, supported any sort of Republican causes, who have ever supported the Republican Party or voted Republican.” The judge was not having any of Grubman’s nonsense. He pointed out the MAGA lawyer’s patent hypocrisy. “I mean I understand that's the theme you take away. But when we actually look at the specific questions, many of them were identical. You asked, just like the state, “How would you characterize your politics — liberal, someone liberal, conservative?” You say what political party do you identify with? Identical to what they're asking.” Grubman was not about to let his deceit die on the vine. He took up arms and disagreed with the judge’s characterization by responding with borderline gibberish. ”That’s asking for which one. I think that is completely different, your Honor. It’s different to say, we want to know what political …. this is a political case. Yes, we should all know what political party. What they ask, they don’t even try to pretend, what they say is, “Are you a Republican?” To me that’s inappropriate.” Trump’s lawyers are like the Titanic victims who did not make it to the lifeboats. They have to cling to any straw despite the futility of the plan. The notorious cheapskate does not pay his lawyers. It seems he is getting his money’s worth.
