Ghana- Homeless 9 Month Pregnant Nigerian Girl [1]

Very worried this morning.

It has been a difficult week in Ghana. My friend John, who has a small ministry helping those who come to him in desperate need, had another bout of passing blood and was in the hospital for several days. He looks more gaunt in every photo. But at least he is home and the bleeding seems to have stopped for how.

I fear John is not meant to make old bones.

He is now living on the beach in Accra and has a little shop where he sells a few small things and makes himself available to those who come to him for help. The shop is always swamped with children. John seems to be a bit of a pied piper. Kids have always loved him and he has told me that he likes their company more than the company of adults. Also he gives them toffee.

A few days ago a seventeen year old girl came to John for help. She is Nigerian, homeless and living on the beach. She is nine months pregnant.

John gave her a little money but he has been ill and has his own problems. His wife started taking drugs (the same drugs that killed little Anabel’s mother) and abandoned their two children. They are currently being cared for by John’s sister-in-law but neither of them are enrolled in school. John will take them when his situation allows but for now that is just impossible. And of course his health is precarious.

But pregnancy cannot wait. This poor girl has no one to help her. She is getting no prenatal care and is not even eating well. I fear for both her and the child.

We will do what we can.
