Oh no! Sex Workers are on the Streets Again [1]

Sex work is a fact of life. The publication “Backpage” presented an alternative, some say safer, means for sex workers to solicit. “Backpage” facilitated private transactions between sex workers and their clients online. In doing so, it provided an effective means to circumvent parasitic pimps and vice squads. During the “Backpage” era, the public histrionics and the moral outrage that always accompanies the world’s “oldest profession” diminished. Sex workers could ply their trade with relative safety. But online illicit sex trafficking also occurred. The morality police were gravely offended and went to work.

Now, communities are, once again, plagued by the past’s traditional street walker’s approach for solicitation. For better or worse, the pimps are back in charge and vice squads busily busing sex workers to jail. The grift is back and the moral crusaders are outraged —acclaiming the time has come to take a stand against streetwalker’s open display of their “wares”. While “Backpages” allowed perusal by interested parties, most things that happen on the street can be seen by any passerby.

But what about the illicit, underage sex trafficking that FOSTA was supposed to address? Does it still operate somewhere on the dark web?

Are there more enlightened ways to address ancient human behavior? Hopefully some of you have thoughts to share.

Disclaimer: I am an old, live a rural life, almost never leave the farm and visitors are a rarity — so my observations are gleaned from trying to understand what the media presents.
