[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2023-10-11 I have been familiar with AB Stoddard for a long time. While I appreciated previous criticism she has offered recently, she didn't seem to have thought out her position logically to its natural conclusion. Nevertheless, I appreciated her stance. Here, she appears, from my reading, to have followed her principles to their logical conclusion. She metaphorically indicts the whole damn Republican Party, even going after those who criticized Trump but who were weak and timid in their criticism. She seems to see what I see among the non Trump supporting presidential candidates (that's tragic - Trump is their opponent and they support him almost without reservation despite all that we know about Donald Trump) : two of the three non-supporters seem to be taking steps back. She refers to Will Hurd rightly, but I see a HUGE problem with Chris Christie. If Trump can't become president again because of all that this would mean including loss of our democracy, loss of our allies, no working government, a convicted felon who violated The Espionage Act, an inveterate liar, an unwell human, a sociopath, a bigot, a malignant narcissist, an extreme present hedonist, no empathy, no loyalty, no compassion, abysmal ignorance, no morals.... , then you must vote for President Joe Biden because despite whatever policy differences you might have with him, those differences are survivable, our democracy can survive the fact that President Biden doesn't have your flawed stupid ass conservative policy views whereas neither the country nor our democracy can survive Trump's reelection. Chris Christie must understand that the country can survive four more years of President Biden regardless of the divergence in policy views. He must also understand that neither the country nor our democracy can survive Trump's reelection. I know that's an appalling collection of words, but I am hopeful that I still communicated my point. She calls out Will Hurd: Yet on Monday he chose not to warn the party or the country about the danger of nominating Trump. Instead, in the announcement of his withdrawal, he said “If the Republican Party nominates Donald Trump or the various personalities jockeying to imitate his divisive, crass behavior, we will lose” (emphasis added). . She is correct to do this. For if this is your only or main concern, then you simply work harder for your candidate. And what if he leads in the polling ?? You (if you are a republican arguing with Will Hurd ) can argue that polls are not reliable even if President Biden were ahead in every poll. I actually believe that polls are not reliable at this point and believe the fundamentals favor President Biden. . Earlier in the article she blasts House Republicans: Bulwark Open app As Crises Mount, Republicans Depart from Reality Once the “party of ideas,” the GOP is now feckless, fractured, and lacking a shared vision. A.B. STODDARD OCT 11, 2023 20 THE REPUBLICANS WHO CONTROL the House of Representatives cannot respond to a new war waged against Israel. They have rejected new aid to support Ukraine in its defense against the Russian invasion. They have no plan to keep the government from shutting down on November 17 when funding next runs dry. There is no path forward, . . . And she concludes: . The Republicans running against Trump aren’t actually trying to stop him. And congressional Republicans are not trying to govern. For eight years Trump has demanded Republicans defend his every lie, every violated norm, every crime. And now battered Republicans are incapable or unwilling to carry out their responsibilities and respond to national security threats. They cannot be counted on to serve their constituents or their country, or to come to the aid of allies in desperate need of American leadership. . The entire article is well worth reading. I would never have guessed that I would be able to write that about an AB Stoddard article since I am a progressive and she is a conservative, but I am doing so this time. She pulls no punches! .
