The Battle of Algiers (movie) and Gaza today [1]

I’m left speechless by what is happening in Gaza. The events remind me of this scene in the movie The Battle of Algiers and a subsequent scene I can’t find.

This scene follows three women who will plant bombs in the European part of Algiers and kill a number of civilians. Look at the faces of the people who will be killed just before the bombs go off. As the victims are being cared for listen to music by Morricone. It is not celebratory.

After this scene comes the one I can’t find. One of the leaders of the liberation movement is captured and asked why they did these bombings. His response is still relevant: Give us you tanks and planes and we’ll give you our baskets.

I can’t justify the terrorism on either side today in Gaza. The deaths of countless innocent people on both sides will only make peace harder to achieve.
